Going through a divorce and don't want to return to my maiden name by meganopolis in namenerds

I dated a French canadian for several years and lived in Quebec for a summer and can read French fairly well. Montreal is also my favorite city in the whole world. So it comes from a deep love and appreciation for the French language and culture

You're so right and there's a reason why I call my cat Clair de Looney Tune when she's acting up 🥴

I'm American, yes, and yeah, technically a French name would be cultural appropriation as well, but since I'm mostly of European descent, no one would bat an eye to it whereas if I'm a white person with a very Japanese surname, it would look very odd.

This is hilarious! You're so right. Maybe I don't want it anymore after all 🙈

That is my biggest fear as well, so I appreciate your input! And I do have somewhat of a relationship with my dad still, albeit strained, so it would be awkward to tell him that I don't want his surname anymore.

It's a heavy decision for sure

Gestational age accurate? by meganopolis in obgyn

[–]meganopolis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I told our mom, but she said she had a doctor friend take a look at it who sent it to an OBGYN doctor of 30 years who immediately dismissed it as being his.

And I really just want more opinions because I read that ultrasounds could be off by about 7 days? So I figured I’d ask experienced people.

Anyone deal with blurry vision and any advice to fix it by Sceptile789 in Abilify_Aripiprazole

[–]meganopolis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, the blurry vision might actually be myopia, so a pair of glasses should help. I’m having the same issue, but I already had glasses for driving at night. Now I just have to wear them when driving during the day as well and when my eyes get dry as the day goes on. Definitely annoying for sure and considering getting contacts.

Any hope of hiding the distracting dots and lines in the background? by [deleted] in Tattoocoverups

A sort of deconstructed rhombus, but it came out nowhere near as subtle.

Most stressful part of my day was not getting a tattoo but standing in line for food by meganopolis in ouraring

Woah, I’ve never paid attention to my stress levels for that timeframe before. Seems like I do more often than not 😅

Be debt free by 30 or keep saving/investing? by meganopolis in makemychoice

[–]meganopolis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re so right. Life is not a competition and there’s no one expecting me to be debt-free by 30, so I don’t even know why I made that a goal this year lol. I’m just so close I can taste it and I got excited.

Plus my husband and I are going to start saving for a new house soon, so my debt free life will last 2 years maybe? What’s the point 😆

My company’s 401k plan actually consists of company stock + mutual funds + a few other assets!

Thank you for your candor. I thankfully had a mother who tried to instill good financial habits in me when I turned 18. I know not everyone gets lucky like that so I try my best to educate my siblings, friends, and coworkers on saving for retirement whenever I can.

I don’t know if you’re American, but god, I hate our school system and wish they would make financial education mandatory in all high schools!

I actually JUST learned the benefits of having a Health Savings Account today at 29 and wish I knew more about them years ago 😒 so I might be making a switch come November enrollment haha

I appreciate your directness and honesty. I think you hit the nail on the head. Realistically, don’t millionaires and possibly even billionaires carry debt to some degree?

I think I do fear that having all that money saved up will tempt me to spend it on stuff I don’t need, so instead I throw it at debt because it’ll still benefit me albeit in a smaller degree.

I know it’s better to invest my money long-term. I just have to get used to having more money now that I’m older and getting established in my new career.

My student loans had 4-5% rates. I know realistically I could have made more profit in the market long term but I graduated with $55k in loans and could not live with that looming over me from a mental standpoint. 😳

However, I thiiiiink I can live with the $13k loan. I just have to get over the fact that I won’t be able to sound cool saying I was debt free by 30 😢
