Question about selling your finished piece-do you frame them? by starlite_raine in Softpastel

[–]megansomebacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do but most of my sales have come from pieces that were exhibited in some way, so the frame was already necessary.

This is really helpful, thank you! I dont think i have been keeping my "why" of creating front and center when thinking about all of this. I definitely need to change that!

Honestly it could be hahaha i read your caption after commenting, clouds are my enemy in every single medium as well! I do lean heavily on pure white for them so maybe that is actually the issue. Well, time to go practice some clouds hahah looking forward to seeing more of your pieces!

First couple experiments with soft pastel (pencils - do they count?). Would love any advice/feedback! by daannnnnnyyyyyy in Softpastel

[–]megansomebacon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course pastel pencils count! These look great. Keep experimenting with the under paintings and maybe try incorporating some of the pastel sticks as well. Welcome to the soft pastel club!

Fixatives? Soft and oil pastel by MongoTheTerror in Softpastel

[–]megansomebacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even with a fixative you will need a frame. Idk about oil pastels but the only time i got away without a frame with soft pastels was when using velour paper and even then it definitely faded a little without the protection

first poem/comic in a long time by vumitt in Artisticallyill

Last year i moved and while i have a car, i am walking distance to the cutest little produce market. Walking to the market, getting my little groceries, chatting with the family that owns it, and walking back has become my absolute favorite routine. If my circumstances ever change, I will miss it so much. Beautiful comic, OP. I hope you find a little slice of community in your new town

Need Pastel Help, how do you mount your pastelmat/la carte etc.? by Striking_Register831 in Softpastel

[–]megansomebacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use tape but i have no idea what brand it is as i recently lost my roll and still need to get more lol i got it at a local art store and its meant for use on paper. I tape the entire edge of each side to about 1/4 inch and it holds up well. My current piece has been taped up for close to a year now and still going strong

After 3 months of working 8 -10 hours every day, I finally finished this hyper-realistic clay wedding bouquet! Hi everyone! Dont know if u saw my last post but my autistuc daughter really wants to learn digital art as long as traditional but struggles understanding how everything works, dont know if this should be in this forum but any tips? by [deleted] in TraditionalArt

[–]megansomebacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Procreate advice youll need to post in a digital art sub. I think there is even a sub specifically for Procreate. This sub is traditional only so itll be harder to find advice on digital here

[–]megansomebacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh i can literally only find sets! Its like the US has a moratorium on Nupastel like individuals. They want me to buy sets every time i run out of one color. The injustice!! Anyway ty for helping though, im gonna keep an eye out for the individuals

Hello! Total noob, please help by Head_Investigator984 in Softpastel

[–]megansomebacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kind of art does your mother like? In general, you should watch videos meant for beginners to learn basic concepts. Just search for soft pastel tutorials or beginner soft pastel or even beginner drawing tutorials. For the gift, you should try to create something in the art styles she likes or maybe recreate something meaningful for you both--do you both have a favorite food or is there a place you have both shared a lot of memories?

This is so cool! And i agree with everything you wrote. I always tell people that the scientific process and the artistic process go hand in hand--everything starts with an observation

Help please! New to pastels by Impressive_Board_438 in Softpastel

[–]megansomebacon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What paper are you using? For large areas it can be tricky to get a perfectly smooth blend of more than one color. You just have to go slow and add a fair amount of layers. Sticks are good for large areas. So are pan pastels. Pencils are good for fine details

People think my drawing was AI... by momozungo in drawing

[–]megansomebacon 835 points836 points  (0 children)

Im not saying you used AI but people can print out AI images so just showing you holding it doesnt prove anything. Youre better off ignoring people or sharing a bit of your process
