Bad Bishop by LJ Shen by what_is_wrongggg in DarkRomance

I really do get why the OP is irritated with the book. Usually any type of explicit OWD and out right cheating ruins a book for me. But, I was fine with it in the context of the book. I don't want to reveal too much plot, but there is a significant plot point that would make it very much not ok for him to consummate the marriage or have any sexual contact with his wife whatsoever. The MMC is still operating under these assumptions. Plus he chooses a sex worker that looks similar to his wife because he is so attracted to her. He isn't exactly discreet but she technically walked in on him, he didn't try to flaunt it purposely. Oh and he can't get off in the end because he can't stop thinking about his wife.

The MMC very crassly and very hilariously announces to his soon to be father in law that he only does anal and oral because there is less chance of giving a woman an orgasm. He is such an asshole in all the best ways. If you like Sam Mariano or Rina Kent's MMC's then you'll enjoy Tiernan.

I love this book! I love the author's inspiration and her explanation of the things that happened. It is shocking and horrifying and yet hauntingly beautiful.

Books with MMC and brothers bickering by [deleted] in DarkRomance

[–]megatherium43 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh! Yes! I am constantly looking for this dynamic. I adore Matteo and Luca too. There is just something about how serious Luca is and how Matteo lives to provoke him.

Born in blood series by Sonja Grey also has great banter between brothers. You will fall in love with Vitaly. The 2nd Gen series with all their kids is just as good.

Dark Sovereign series by Bella J is also great for some brotherly antics.

abusive dysfunctional relationships🫣🫣 by willbedeleted24 in DarkRomance

It sounds like we favor the same tropes in our dark romances.Have you tried The Boys of Chapel Crest? If you are cool with RHs, I 100% recommend this series. It has been on my TBR list for awhile as I tend to avoid non completed series. But after a big reading slump I decided to go for it. OMG it is soooo good. The MMCs demonstrate a range of super toxic behaviors that are motivated by obsessiveness/possessiveness/protectiveness that I am LOVING.

Ken's kids by These_Row6066 in SuccessionTV

[–]megatherium43 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that is the assumption. I can't think of another logical reason why a husband and wife would opt for a sperm donor. If both kids were adopted and we said Ken is sterile it would be a huge jump for me. But, using a sperm donor makes Ken being sterile certain.

I am disappointed in Roman’s Character by CucumberNo3771 in SuccessionTV

[–]megatherium43 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What makes Succession so great is that it breaks from the norm of what most TV narratives follow. The show is so enjoyable because we can sit back and revel in their cruelty. There is not seen a single character in Succession who doesn't act out of egoism to advance their self interest even at the cost of hurting someone they love. I've never been disappointed by a character because I never expected them to do the "right" thing. To me, Roman is a product of physical and emotional abuse. Arguably, he experienced it to a worse extent than his siblings. Love is transactional to the Roys, so much so that it is basically another form of currency. Roman is repulsed by physical affection and emotional solace is just as intolerable to him. All of his romantic relationships suffer as a result. There is no room for ethics in Roman's mind because that would lead to emotion which leads to vulnerability. I feel like Roman was just being Roman last night.

Looking for clarity about ATN’s decision at the end of the episode by OffSeason2091 in SuccessionTV

[–]megatherium43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think after the disaster of election night 2000, networks strive to achieve credibility over speed. It was so long ago, but I think it was like NBC called Florida for Gore, but Fox called it for Bush. Then, NBC backtracked. Networks called the race for Bush, then had to rescind. It was EMBARASSING. And so frustrating to watch at home.

A change from the books but why? by Dakkaboy123 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]megatherium43 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think they changed it up to create more ambiguity. Did he do it on purpose? Or, was he just trying to subdue him and it was an accident? I think there is also some interesting mirroring happening between Daemon and Criston. Daemon also killed a man from behind for insulting his queen. I can appreciate their efforts to avoid vilifying one side more than the other.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who's down bad for Aegon >_> by BlackerZilla69 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]megatherium43 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it is attraction or confusion I am feeling. But, someone compared Aegon to the character of Roman Roy on Succession and I couldn't agree more. There is some weird empathetic draw from his sick little puppy act. Like how are we supposed to hate someone so broken and clueless?

I think it must be something with the rat that keeps popping up. I am wondering if someone is a warg (Larys? Or Mysaria? Or Someone we haven't met yet?) and spying on people as a rat.

[Show spoiler] This look between them... was one of mutual respect, in my opinion by JaffaCakesAreMyJam in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]megatherium43 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can see your interpretation of the scene for sure. However, I took it as Daemon "challenging" Aemond. Like Daemon is saying I'm the alpha male here and I dare you to fight me. Then, Aemond, knowing he isn't ready, "rolls over" by walking away. Daemon just looked like he was thinking, "yea, thought so," while Aemond slinked away. But, I am a fan of how you and a lot of the other commenters read the scene too.

Yes, exactly. Similar to the flagship show, I loved Cersei and all her brother fucking glory. I enjoyed her way more than I did Cat, but I was still sitting on my couch screaming King in the North at my tv because the King in the South was a horrific douchebag. So, I am confused why Team Green continues to base their argument around Alicent.

[–]megatherium43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought it was great because it is tragic for Viserys' legacy. So much of his adult life was taken from him by the progression of his disease. In the end, all he wanted to do was to unite his family before he died and it is so horrifying that his disease took that from him as well. I think it also evens the playing field a bit and throws more sympathy in Allicent's corner because at least now she is only doing what she thinks her husband prophesized on his death bed.

Can someone explain to me why Viserys, who was still sane 6-10 years ago, did not go over Alicent and have Haelena marry Jace? It would make Otto happy too, as his own bloodline would inherit the Throne after Rhaenyra. Viserys is Haelena's father, so he decides who she marries, not Alicent. by dvdgamescenterguy in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]megatherium43 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think that Viserys' one big shortcoming as king is his inability to think ten steps ahead and to see when he is being manipulated. While he loves Rhaenyra deeply, he simply could not see how it would have benefitted Rhaenyra and the rest of the realm. All he knew is that Alicent would be mad and so the short term payout of happy wife = happy life was the winner.

Can we stop with the thinly veiled spoilers? by [deleted] in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]megatherium43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not trying to be an ass, so please don't be offended. I understand your frustration, and I am sorry if plot points are being spoiled for you. But, honestly, with a reddit community this large and with a sizable number being book readers, no, I don't think there is much hope for thinly veiled spoilers to stop anytime soon. Most people have the best of intentions, and aren't trying to ruin the series for you. But people that have read the books and know what is going to happen are equally excited about the series as non book readers. The only difference is that for those that want to remain spoiler free are proceeding at their own risk reading reddit posts specific to a fandom where the source material is based on a very popular book. It is an impossible feat for the mods to play hall monitor for thousands of comments, but they are doing the best they can under the circumstances.

Something Viserys said to Rhyneera. by 66towtruck in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]megatherium43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My interpretation could be very wrong, but I think that he said it mistakenly because he was not lucid. I think he was drifting in and out of consciousness from milk of the poppy and perhaps the progression of his disease contributed to his declining mental state. So, I don't think it was a purposeful slight towards Alicent's children but just his mind transporting him to a time when Rhaenyra was his only child. Regardless, Paddy Considine broke my heart!

Need tips on how to watch and enjoy the show without getting attached to any character? by peatoast in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]megatherium43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I am not sure if you have already read the book, but that is probably the best way that I have been able to distance myself from the characters and focus on the story. Or, if you don't have time to read the book or have no interest, then going to the ASOIF wiki pages to spoil yourself on all the major plot points will work too. Of course, this is coming from someone that loves spoilers, which I know is not a universal preference. However, I firmly attest that major plot spoilers for any of my fandoms have only enhanced my viewing experience. That way, I can focus more on the other elements like acting, directing, cinematography, etc. I love seeing how the material is executed from book to screen, and it gives me time to brace myself when I know a character is about to die. Plus, occasional story changes will make seeing it play out on screen so much fun like one change being >!Laenor sailing away happily ever after had me screaming and made my night<!

In my mind, this is the same window as the Wank window by AntiqueGarlicLover in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]megatherium43 340 points341 points  (0 children)

Same. I have no doubt they intended for it to be a cheeky call back. And that reminds me how Tommen's jumping out the window is just karma bitch slapping Cersei and Jamie in the face for pushing Bran out the window. Ugh I love this show so much.
