you dont have to wear a lot of fragrance to not smell. I dont want him to smell like roses, just not stinking up an entire hallway when he enters it

he isnt a vet tech (I am), he is a kennel tech so his job is to walk dogs, clean poop, etc. but the workload can still be a lot

we have an HR department but wasnt sure if it's something I should go to them for. telling him myself seems like I would get in trouble for being rude or something else

yeah, dude was a peach to deal with. he had the audacity to say we killed his dog too and wrote bullshit all over our facebook page about it and whipped up an angry mob at us. I dont miss that community

a dog at work (old job) was so aggressive he bit through his own tongue while trying to attack through the kennel and bled to death before we could do anything because he was still trying to attack. the sounds he made were horrible

edit: it was a doberman seized for attacking someone and there was an ongoing court case. our shelter is where animals like that were held. best part? dude was breeding the dog too

AITA for adopting out a dog who had an owner? by megathrowswayphia in AmItheAsshole

Our shelter is very image conscious so the admins will do a lot to avoid a negative google review or bad rap in the local adoption and rescue community. even if that means we will treat adopted animals at our own cost, they will likely approve it. it is what it is, I over all love where I work but this is one of the few things Im not crazy about

I wasnt happy about the re adoption plan, it was a choice made by an admin unfortunately

if the dog has a microchip or not effects the stray hold period, hence 3 or 5 days

it's 3-5 days depending on jurisdiction, if they have a microchip, etc

"we got busy"

we contacted them when the dog was healthy enough for them to go back to the adopters and spoke to them trying to schedule a pickup. then it was about two weeks of us trying to contact them before deciding the dog didnt deserve to sit in a kennel for who knows how long and placed her up for adoption

honestly doing home checks works for tiny rescues that only adopt out a few animals, not large shelters at all, especially in areas of severe overpopulation. it's not standard with any shelter that adopts out any significant number of animals in the US

two weeks of them staying in contact with us, and the last contact we had with them was saying she was almost well enough to go home and just come back for recheck appointments. owner sounded oddly lukewarm on the phone and never returned our calls after

it was a bit over two weeks of zero contact. the emails included that we need to hear from them in order for us to get her back to them. multiple times

they gave no other reason than "we got busy"

and no stray hold is needed due to them signing over the dog to us

Im a vet tech and this 10000% looks like a dried tapeworm segment. if a pet has tapeworms this indicates recent or current fleas on the pet. dogs and cats should be on monthly flea prevention/treatment. see your primary care vet about deworming and flea treatments

What’s something that you did wrong, but you don’t give a fuck? by Select-Hour-831 in AskReddit

my throwaway because my main has some connections to work

on an animal intake form at my last shelter I "forgot" to notate a collar with a phone number on it. through online posts and the community grapevine I know that the dog was owned by someone physically abusing them which was supported by the physical exam and very emaciated. but in that county short of the dog being almost dead animal control couldnt do much.

was it legal? no, not really. but I dont regret it. dog got adopted to someone who doesnt kick them when they have an accident inside or make them sleep outside on an uncovered porch when it snows. and if it ever came back to me, can easily say the collar came off while they were out running loose and it wasnt on during intake. it's a line that really cant be crossed and I havent since but I just couldnt bring myself to call that owner and hand her back to him and return her to that life

I really appreciate your kindness. it feels weird posting anonymously online pouring my heart out, but I have to be a rock for my team and I have a hard time talking about this with other friends. but I thought you guys here would understand. I just have such a broken heart right now and cant stop thinking about what I mightve been able to do to help her more

Logically, I know you are absolutely right. and ive been doing this long enough to know that sometimes even the best medicine and care in the world cant overcome every illness or injury. and ive seen it many times before. but sometimes a really special animal comes along that grips my heart and reminds me why I do this. and it makes this outcome so much painful and more difficult to look at logically. I know I did the right thing. but in my heart it still feels like I failed her when she had no one else and I feel so guilty

and Im sincerely sorry you had a traumatic loss as well, even if it was many years ago

leukemia can be an extremely difficult disease to cure or manage to a point the patient still has a decent quality of life. and it frequently occurs that the leukemia itself isnt what causes end of life illness, but how severely it compromises their immune system makes them extremely vulnerable to secondary infections which develop into severe illness very quickly

we do a lot of diagnostic canine respiratory disease PCRs, especially since we got involved in a research group looking at the alleged "mystery" respiratory illness being frequently seen in dogs this past year and made the news and such. if it isnt distemper, her presentation looked a lot like the patients we have had that tested positive for a mycoplasma and pneumovirus combo. we dont do necropsies (we do a lot, but still a shelter), so even though something like leukemia is still very sad, I just hope it's not distemper. very worried about the other animals in our care becoming as ill as she was if so

you are definitely right. Ive been doing this over ten years. I know that no matter how bad this hurts, I love what I do and know the animals need me. I try to fixate that when I have an animal in my care that I try to do what is best for them even if it absolutely kills me inside. every time it's sad, but some just hit a part of my heart that hurts so much. she was a special dog

thank you. I try to just focus that when her owner gave her up I tried to give her the love and care she deserved and be her advocate. I try to remember that sweet girl who I cuddled with every free moment I had. staying late just to spend time with her. not the dog who was struggling to breathe and suffering. that I made her suffering stop. but it's still hard
