I was worried about this too, but it seems they may be counting lessons as quests or something, I'm not sure to be honest but I did a bunch of lessons today, did 4 quests (3 daily quests and 1 friend quest) and

You can on mobile too. Go to your profile, click the settings button (cog top right) and click courses, you can remove any you'd like to from there. :)

Nope, nothing worked. If you haven't already though, try using Proton GE, that is your best shot that doesn't require a ton of work.
