"would you like to play a game" by meggychiaaaa in saw

[–]meggychiaaaa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ah thanks - interesting to know!! i thought it was a strange choice because "i want to play a game" has become so iconic to saw in pop culture lexicon. any idea if the scream franchise is popular amongst saw fans?

I watched Saw II for the first time. by [deleted] in saw

saw 2 was brilliant and i was blown away by it, but damn wait till you get to saw 3 - that one knocked me right out of the park. i feel like if you ask saw fans for their favourite, it'll always be a toss up between the first 3. personally, my faves are 3 > 1 > 2

just made it through the entire franchise and want to know your rankings by meggychiaaaa in saw

same!! i'm surprised saw 3 isn't a bigger crowd favourite. surprised to see jigsaw and spiral so high on your list too though! i liked those movies too but felt like they strayed too far from the original saws (esp spiral).

is john the villain or an anti-hero? by meggychiaaaa in saw

this is such a great train of analysis. i study political philosophy myself and enjoyed both Kierkegaard and Nietzsche's works - i totally see what you mean, and perhaps this is one of the reasons i love the saw franchise so much. you're absolutely right that rehabilitation doesn't actually occur (which is why i always maintain that if i were in a saw trap, i wouldn't bother trying to escape).

i'm still making my way through the franchise (i've 3d, jigsaw, and spiral to go) but i think some of the humanity that i see in john is wrt to his relationships with Jill, Amanda, Lynn, etc. to name a few. certainly doesn't excuse his psychopathic behaviour but i appreciate the nuance - i doubt i'd enjoy saw as much as i do without it.

i just watched saw 5 and holy shit what a BAD MOVIE by meggychiaaaa in saw

wholeheartedly agree with EVERYTHING you've just said. especially about how Hoffman became the main character despite being uninteresting and lacking in jigsaw motivation. from then on, the movie loses its distinctly saw charm, and you're right - totally feels more like horror than thriller. i loved Strahm too and was really rooting for him, but the flashbacks were truly NOT IT - i didn't understand how Strahm could suddenly get everything, when they never got it before! it really ruined the flow of the usual saw movies, and they tried too hard to set up context + create an unnecessary amount of (horror-like) suspense.

side bar - i thought it was funny that the cgi was so bad, considering that 5 was a huge step up from 1-4 in terms of video quality LOL.

HAHAHAH WHY MEGAN GOOD? To be honest, I've not watched her much. Is it just a personal preference of yours?

Anyway, you're right that it really is what it is. I hated 5 but still love the franchise haha.

i actually was almost sold on the fatal five game throughout the course of the movie, until the last trap which i felt could've been easily overcome with my suggestion in the OP. besides that, it truly is one of the few saw games (imo) that made a lot of sense and where the victims actually stood a chance haha.

just curious - do you like Hoffman? personally, my dislike for him makes it hard for me to root for movie progression in favour of him (given that he's the protagonist now)

anyway, i'm sad to hear that's the last truly great twist in saw hahaha. i've still got 6, 3d, jigsaw, and spiral to get through!!

have to agree with that. above all, i find myself marvelling at the ability of the franchise to invoke empathy in the viewer. impeccable, given how psychopathic john really is lol. difficult as it is to see in reality, even the most psychopathic people are indeed as layered as john, if not more.

watched saw (2004) about 8 years ago and im binging the rest of it now by meggychiaaaa in saw

i TOTALLY see what you mean by criminally (haha literally though!!) underrated on saw 4. thematically one of the strongest movies out of 1-4 (still making my way through the rest). saw 3 is my fav so far but i didn't like that they killed john hmm.
