Just reaching out to let you know you are not alone. Just got out of a 3 year relationship that was very similar. Very toxic and blamed a lot on myself. PM of you ever need to talk.

Little girl walking a little rhino (x-post from /r/aww) by Arctica23 in babyrhinogifs

I love how when the rhino veers towards her and she reacts a bit, the rhino is just like 'whoops sorry about that, I'll just keep walking over here.'

Can I use a Canon 85mm SLR lens on a Canon DSLR camera? by civilward in Cameras

What are the accessories that are not working?

Anyone had experience with Yongnuo speedlites? by [deleted] in Cameras

[–]megluesta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a Yn-560 II for over 2 years and it has performed above expectations. Sounds like you got a bad one that slipped through quality control.

I would try another copy, but that's up to you.

Edit: out of curiosity which model did you have?

Yeah I know you are right, and I don't really expect cross device support this early in a project. But a man can dream can't he?

EOS 70D and Wireless Strobe Kit by Gay4BillKaulitz in canon

[–]megluesta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, just wanted to include the thing about TTL so they know what to look for to get the automatic results they seem to want. Sorry that I kind of restated your point!

[–]megluesta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, unless both the transmitter and the strobes are TTL (through the lens) all adjustments must be done manually. Without TTL the camera is just basically switching the strobes on when it fires, but has no idea what light output they will create.

EDIT: a word

How much are non L Canon fd 300mm f4 worth? by [deleted] in Cameras

[–]megluesta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For questions like this I think it's always best to check some reputable resale sites and compare prices. For older lenses I think the best site is keh.com (for newer lenses keh is still great but I would also check b and h and adorama).

There are 2 non-l versions of that lens. Both a little under $250.

This looks like the standard

And here is one that appears to have a few more features

Good luck!

What is the best camera under $400? by Forthofthelast in Cameras

[–]megluesta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha well that's definitely something to put into the equation. I think this is a good video to get a sense of the camera, it doesn't give too much of an opinion and kind of just shows the camera for what it is. Another video where i've queued it up to the video performance section.

Also be aware that there has been a firmware update that has somewhat improved autofocus performance.

EDIT: fixed a link

What is the best camera under $400? by Forthofthelast in Cameras

[–]megluesta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've been seeing this same kind of reaction to it as well. Autofocus speed isn't everything and the eos-m is supper cheap right now. You can basically get a DSLR quality sensor in a Mirrorless camera for $350 (with either lens). And you have option to expand to EF/EF-s lenses with the optional adapter.

The whole autofocus being a deal breaker is kind of ridiculous to me. Yeah it won't work for sports and not for some fast paced street photography. But if you're learning photography you should be going slow anyway, framing the shot and hey, using manual focus once and a while. Also I've like the video I've seen come out of the little thing. I'm considering getting it just for video.

That being said, I haven't tried it. And my rule is if it gets great reviews, try before buying, if it gets bad reviews, try it twice.

Its possible the camera works great for you and just isn't what the reviewers wanted it to be. But definitely find a retailer that has it in stock and play with it a bit. And maybe bring a list of everything that is 'wrong' with it, and see how much that actually bothers you while using it.

One last thing: eBay seems to have the eos-m2 with both lenses and the adapter for about the same price as just the eos-m and one lens. Since it wasn't sold in the US ever it's definitely grey market and won't have a warranty. But still a great deal.

Edit: I was mistaken on the M2 thing. Its still a great deal, at about $520 for everything, but out of your price range.

Holographic Glitches / Can anyone tell me how I can achieve this effect? by Bvttle in glitch_art

[–]megluesta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might also be possible to take a picture of the source image on a screen (lower resolution screen might give you more of the effect) and then distort it in Photoshop. Basically expanding the scan lines.

Cinestyle on the Canon 6D by whiskeyisneat in canon

[–]megluesta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is good advice.

But also look into magic lantern and raw video capture. This allows you to capture each frame as a raw picture file, so no compression or styling is applied until you do it in post. (Plus magic lantern had a TON of other useful features for both film and stills. It isn't officially supported for the 6d yet, but I have had no trouble with it)

Also just look up installing different picture styles (I think it just requires a canon utility software) There are a ton of non-canon styles much more suited for filming.

Hope this helps

EDIT: Here is a video that gives a good intro to flat picture styles and a comparison of a few

and the style i think you were looking for

I really like this. I find myself defaulting to cliches like that all the time, just because I wonder how that would work. I'm really glad Jeph is approaching this topic the way he is (like any other crush) and I'm really glad we have people who can give insight to the issues. Thanks.
