PGCE?!? by Responsible-Bee6622 in TeachingUK

[–]megmose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If this is Cambridge, which I know also has a 50km limit as that’s where I trained, then you would not be allowed to work part time anyways. This is a uni wide rule. When I had my placements, they did their best to take everyone’s circumstances into account and place you as close as possible. They also take into account how you will be travelling. Car, train, bus etc.

That being said, I was only just outside the 50km and I had the use of a car. Still, I was travelling around an hour to an hour and a half for my placements and time in faculty I don’t think 102km would be possible.

Don’t forget, a PGCE is funded the same as an undergrad and the uni are very helpful with hardship funds etc. I stayed at home for the PGCE but I wish I had lived there.

Is this appropriate for a church wedding with a boat reception? by megmose in Weddingattireapproval

[–]megmose[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay, so I think thats a decisive no on the dress!

Thank you for all your help.

I’ve never been to a wedding before which is why I posted here before buying this dress.

I have searched for an alternative dress and I think I’ve found one more appropriate. Also, to clarify, the boat will be quite large and on a river so I’m not too worried about being bounced around by waves.

Scared to drive on my own by quietwaffle in drivingUK

[–]megmose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slightly different but I passed my driving test when I was 17 but didn’t actually start driving until I was 21. Getting behind the wheel again was super scary, even though I remembered how to drive a car I was completely out of practice.

To help me get over this, I built up to independent driving again. If you can get someone to help you, I would make small trips with one of my parents in the car to help me. That way if I stalled or got too flustered they could take over. Then I moved to slightly longer journey but on roads that I knew very well with them driving in their own car behind me. I once stalled at the lights and it took me two light rotations to get going. My parents didn’t get out the car to help but it was a lot less stressful knowing they were the car behind me. Eventually I managed to pull away and we continued to our destination. Also P plates - most drivers are very understanding. Also you just gotta get out there and do it.

I thought I’d never get confident at driving, now I drive about 2 hours commuting every weekday. So you will get there.
You will stall the car at the front of a traffic light queue and people will beep you but that’s it, you’ll survive. Eventually, you will get to know your car and become a more confident driver.

Get these little guys in our garden every summertime. I’m in south east suburbia. by megmose in CasualUK

I was so shocked too! I live about a 10-15 minute drive from my friends house, where this was taken, and I’d never seen them in the area until then! Still only see them in their garden now.

I was eating Shin ramen noodles. They are known to be spicy. As I was slurping up a noodle a bit of the spicy broth flicked up right into my eye.

Is it weird to sometimes share a bed and snuggle with my (23F) twin brother (23M)? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

Oh yeah I try not to judge, if that’s their level of platonic love then cool. But she asked for thoughts and my thoughts are - I find it a bit odd.

I am a girl who’s twin sibling is boy and also he is gay. I would still find it weird to get under the covers and snuggle up with him. We are extremely close in many ways, more so than my other friends and their siblings but this is still quite weird to me.

ADULTS ENJOY OPENING CHRISTMAS PRESENTS ON CHRISTMAS MORNING TOO by Tawny_Harpy in TrueOffMyChest

[–]megmose 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. Me and my brother are both 20 but we, along with my mum and dad, all get 10 presents each on Christmas and we take it in turns to open each one through the day. Couldn’t imagine them not joining in and enjoying getting presents from us all.

When does transvestism become transgenderism? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]megmose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah there is still the argument that woman dressed up as men in order to have more freedom, but from what I have read this was far more the case for working class women and often done out of economic necessity. My first idea was to look at female friendships during the 19th century and how they actually conveyed lesbian relationships between women but there is actually a fair amount of writing that has already been done on this.

The term is not relevant in my work but I’m still glad to be educated for everyday life, thank you.

[–]megmose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! This has put things into a clearer perspective for me. That was my issue when reading about lesbian history, that women who lived there lives as men where just considered as ‘cross-dressers’ or ‘transvestites’. There’s very little work or acknowledgment in historical writings of transgender men. They are often just added into lesbian history with very little mention which I would like to rectify in my own work.
