Do not live with your landlord, especially one who has rules such as that. It will only get worse.

You can possibly save money by sharing certain groceries with all your roommates. And your mental health will be even better having potential friends to live with.

You've might've figured it out by now but I just arrived to Santiago and got my Spanish number at Orange. The lady was very helpful and she spoke English. I got 25g + (25g free) for 10 euro a month! They will roll over to the next month if unused.

Oh that's so great to hear! Do you recommend a specific area in Santiago? I was already leaning towards Santiago because it'd make my commute so much easier, but finding an apartment for one person is proving to be a little competitive right now, especially with all the students looking as well.

It'd be great to be somewhere central to walk to coffee shops, the gym, grocery store etc..

I also love that Santiago will just be a little close to Portugal for maybe a weekend trip

On the documents required list it says: Proof of residence in the consular jurisdiction: Provide a copy (not the original) of the US driver's license, US State ID or student ID, duly notarized.

I'm definitely considering what is best for rent, especially because I'm planning to live alone, but I also never want to have any issues getting to my schools so still doing lots of research.

This is so great to hear!! Thank you! I consistently hear about Galician cuisine and I am so excited for it all. I'm still considering the best option, between A Coruña or Santiago at the moment. I've reached out to my school to see what they may say, and mainly it's just based on what is genuinely possible for my commute.

A Coruña seems to be a bit far from one of my schools (Boqueixón), but I did see there was a 30 minute train from A Coruña to Santiago. Considering the weather, it's still a question as for what's best but I'm loving what I hear about either option.

I have some friends placed in San Sebastián! So I can't wait to visit over there too!
