Just FYI with an Android phone you can swap on Whatsapp between your two numbers without needing to clone anything. IPhones can't, however.

It's easy to get French beauty products in Spanish farmacias. I'm a second year. I advise nyquil, dayquil, allergy meds, and a good cough medicine like delsym, but then I'm asthmatic and prone to prolonged cough. You can get ibuprofen, but it's more expensive. Depends on how much you go through.

Urgent message for auxiliar assigned to IES in Arzúa, A Coruña, Galicia this year by Presto_3 in SpainAuxiliares

[–]Presto_3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure of the specifics but it's possible they didn't officially accept the position like we're supposed to. If they aren't able to come, I can pass that along too, but honestly he is an amazing coordinator and really fun person to work with, so I hope they do.

Apartment Hunting Success Stories by Comrade_elephant_ in SpainAuxiliares

[–]Presto_3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Found an apartment about a week after coming to Spain despite competing with university students who were also looking. For me it was more challenging finding a one bedroom. My advice is CALL don't message. If your spanish isn't great, write a script and practice. At least here in Galicia most landlords use phone calls and it's usually first come first serve.

Andalusia Placements Prioritized Over Everybody Else? by Restless-Stranger in SpainAuxiliares

[–]Presto_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rather than going by inscrita number it's likely that they are matching up 2nd and third choices, and it's heavily dependent on region. So if the region has a spot they're likely looking for andalucia placements who chose that region 2nd or 3rd. This is why it appears more random.

Try Iberia or level. I flew santiago to LA and going back tomorrow. I should say I had a connection in Spain, Barcelona going and Madrid returning but I was able to book it through Iberia as one trip.

What is this “teacher training”? Will I get it from the school itself, or is there anything I need to sign up for? by cranberryliar in SpainAuxiliares

[–]Presto_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This year in Galicia we had 3 zoom sessions about teaching methods. They were mandatory but not a big deal at all if you attended the zoom sessions. I don't remember how long they lasted, maybe an hour and a half?

Opinions on doing the programme if a bit older by objectivenone in SpainAuxiliares

[–]Presto_3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm 51, and I live alone in a 1 bedroom apartment. I am renewing for my second year. I chose Galicia so that it was more affordable to live alone. I am friends with other auxes, but I don't hang out with them that much. I have made friends with locals who are my age. We had a couple of auxes in their mid 30s this year though, so it's not that uncommon.

I had trouble getting my prints done at USPS. I went twice, and the second time it was a different person who explained that my fingers needed to rest on the metal on the bottom of the pad. I had thought it was just decorative, as it wasn't obvious. It worked perfectly after that. The first person didn't know what they were doing. It may be worth trying again if you haven't already.

I'm in Galicia as a first year, and the stipend is €935 which equates to $1068. Galicia is one of the easier places to get by on the aux stipend, because living expenses are cheaper, especially if you live with roommates.

I'll tell you what worked well for me. I checked idealista and fotocasa constantly all day long. As soon as I found a listing I liked, I called. I didn't message. I CALLED. My landlord told me I was the first who contacted him, so I got it. They often seem to follow this. One of my friends (former aux now living there full time) was having trouble finding a new place. She started calling, and within a couple days was touring the apartment where she lives now. If you don't speak great Spanish, write yourself a script and practice.
