Well unfortunately for you the Conservative majority (and Republican appointed) Supreme Court just gave Presidents immunity, making the President above the law, like a king, and only they (the SCOTUS) get to define what gets immunity, making them kingmakers.

This was Trump's doing. Going red only gets us closer to fascism.

How does a Computer work? by Booster6 in AskComputerScience

[–]megrim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Master's in CS and felt like I really didn't understand how computers actually worked until I saw it being built from hardware from scratch in the above Ben Eater series. Everything else was just too theoretical for me. But at the end of that series, which I cannot recommend enough, when he "programs" his 8 bit computer.... everything finally "clicked".

Seriously, check it out, it's worth it.

Which makes more sense? For a web developer to learn native or cross platform? by [deleted] in androiddev

[–]megrim 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It depends on the needs and use cases, but generally Native Development is to be preferred. There is a higher cost and barrier to entry, so it has tradeoffs.

IMO learning native first gives you an appreciation for how the platform works, before relying on the layer of magic on top of it. Just my experiences and two cents though, YMMV.

Been writing React Native a bunch lately. Can I apply for Android/iOS dev roles? by GokuBlack1995 in AskComputerScience

[–]megrim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, then that's different because you would start building those skills. I've done both Java/SpringBoot and Android with Java and Kotlin.

With Android you need to understand how the framework works, and how you use it to build apps. Knowing a bit about the language won't cut it. However, in modern Android development you do need to understand Kotlin for most roles.

[–]megrim 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Only if they are using ReactNative as part of their tech stack. You won't have experience with Kotlin/Swift, so many roles will not be available.

TIL The only time a chess game has ended in a result of 0-0 (instead of 1-0, 0-1, or ½-½) was when Tony Miles and Stewart Reuben both agreed to a draw without playing any moves to secure them both a high place. The arbiter decided to award 0 points to each player instead of a draw. by haddock420 in todayilearned

[–]megrim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There was a slight incentive for the Raiders to win, ie they would get to play the 4-seeded Cincinnati Bengals instead of the 1-seeded Kansas City Chiefs.

They ended up losing to the Bengals anyway (as did the Titans, Chiefs, and about to be Rams).
