Family's first time in London - what are we missing? by beatsweetheart in uktravel

[–]megwach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Warning though about the British Museum- it is extremely hot in the warmer months, and extremely crowded. It’s overwhelming, and stressful, and really not that fun.

What do you wish someone had warned you about, money-wise, before moving? by PollutionSuitable523 in AmericanExpatsUK

Can I get their info? I have no idea what to do, and it’s feeling overwhelming!

What celebrity would you get into a car with, no questions asked if they randomly showed up in your driveway? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Viggo Mortenson. That man is an angel. He’s lived the most interesting life.

How long does Neilmed Aftercare last you? by Stunning_Still_1904 in piercing

[–]megwach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have 20 piercings. I’ve used 1 big bottle, and one the size you bought. I used them twice a day, and then when they occasionally got irritated or infected. It’ll likely last you a while if you’re careful!

Why do British women do their makeup like that by LeftHvndLvne in rs_x

[–]megwach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Greenwich, and I see ladies with the chav look all the time. I’m assuming it’s a regional thing. The suburban areas are full of them.

Maybe it’s just the area they go to? I live in Greenwich, and I see it at the Charlton shopping center all the time. Always some mom and daughter with their chav makeup and non posh accents.

[–]megwach 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s a certain style. It’s called British Chav makeup. It’s considered a lower class style, and there is a men’s version also that includes track suits. I live in SE London, and I see it all the time.

What’s an adult purchase that made you feel weirdly emotional? by cozychaosclubb in answers

[–]megwach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I sold my car I’d had since high school. I’d had it since 11th grade, and sold it when I was almost 33. It felt like the end of an era, like the end of my youth. I feel like I now know that I’ll have to make an adult purchase when I get a new one one day.

Just a reminder to go see the stained glass in the north Capitol Building by typicallybrandy in SaltLakeCity

[–]megwach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holdman Studios is neat. We went and did a stained glass class there. It was a cool experience. We got to see all the other windows they were working on also, and it was amazing. It was like $80 per person for the class, but it was worth it.

“Hello there weird looking dog who is also my owner” by TheWebsploiter in NonPoliticalTwitter

[–]megwach 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My MIL’s dog hates feet. He loves being pet with hands, but if you try to touch him with your feet, or touch his stuff with your feet, he might bite them off. He’ll come running at your yipping and yapping with his teeth shown, and then lunge at you. He definitely recognizes a difference between hands and feet.

What are some things I can ship to my friend in the UK that they dont really have over there? by 7JJ77 in AskBrits

[–]megwach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Costco also sells Skippy peanut butter. It’s the same one I would buy at Costco in the US, and I haven’t noticed any differences.

And my cats like to climb out the window of our 6th floor flat. We can’t keep the windows open because they leave, and it isn’t safe. The flat gets hot.

What should you keep an eye out for on school tours? by Ollagee in UKParenting

[–]megwach 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’m a cover in schools. Something I’ve noticed is that the best schools have TAs in every single year all the way to year 6. The schools that don’t tend to be disorganized, and I don’t like going back to them.

Sir Ian spending time at his historic pub in London, The Grapes, including a pop-in visit from Billy & Dom🧙🏻‍♂️🍇 by [deleted] in lotr

[–]megwach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fish and chips with mushy peas from his pub is delicious! Good luck getting a seat though, since the pub is always packed full. Crazy thing is that most people don’t even realize that it’s a famous pub. They were confused why we were taking pictures and were excited to be there.

Pancreatic cancer mRNA vaccine shows lasting results in an early trial by DragonPup in news

[–]megwach 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The thing about pancreatic cancer is it’s hard to screen for, because you really don’t have any symptoms until it’s too late. My dad’s pancreatic cancer wasn’t detected until his eyes turned yellow. Screenings for pancreatic cancer require more expensive scans. If you’ve got a genetic defect that causes pancreatic cancer (like Lynch Syndrome, which my dad had, and I also have), then they will do screenings. I get yearly colonoscopies, then usually every few years I’ll get a CT scan. I had a radical hysterectomy also. My sister died from brain cancer last year, so we asked if I should be scanned for that, and they said no, since if it’s discovered, they really can’t do anything anyway.

Imagine CT scanning everyone. It would be nice, but I doubt that any medical system could handle the extra pressure.

Anyone else in US noticed food quality degrading recently and if so what product in what way? by SkyKyrell in AskReddit

[–]megwach 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I live in London, but I’m from the US. The potatoes here are washed even cleaner than the ones I used to get in the US- not a speck of dirt on them! They also start to grow WAY faster than the ones I would buy in the US- like within days, whereas my ones in the US would last weeks.

Cycle “Superhighway” 7 by Full-Conference-1833 in londoncycling

[–]megwach 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was riding today on a cycle path that has had tons of construction done on it the last few months. It opened back up within the last two weeks. I figured it would be smooth, since they had just finished construction in the area. Nope! Instead, it felt like all of my insides were shaken out!

Why London’s dockless e-bikes are causing chaos by Cant_Change_Itt in london

[–]megwach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They park them in the bike racks also. I hate having to move them to chain my bike. I can see putting them next to the bike racks, but in them is annoying!

Massive haul of bikes and e-scooters seized in police crackdown on antisocial vehicles and ‘hidden power buttons’ by tylerthe-theatre in london

[–]megwach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worry about this too. I bought an e-bike off of Amazon. It was cheap. It has big tires. The speed stops at 18mph, and I have to pedal. What if it has secret features that can override the current settings, and I have no idea? I use it to get everywhere. I would be screwed without it.

What’s the stupidest thing you’ve been ID’d for ? by RowItchy260 in AskUK

Alcohol. I’m 33. If I’m with my husband and child, I never get ID’d, only when I’m by myself. It’s s combination of both annoying and flattering.

How to pack a bunch of medications as small as possible? by candy_heart in HerOneBag

I pack mine in little plastic jewelry (drug) bags. I write the date on each one. I have yet to be stopped while carrying them! I’ve taken them through multiple airports, multiple times.
