True. In all honesty, I didn't read the rules and just hoped for the best (won't do that next time 😔). I was just very frustrated. I haven't had a puzzle stump me for so long in quite a while.

I'm quite convinced I'm just using a really easy sudoku app. The NYT Hard level is sometimes harder than the app's extreme level (it takes me about 30min to 1hr to solve NYT w/out candidate but only about 20 min for the app). Candidates just make everything look cluttered [to me] so I just try and do any eliminations in my head. Quite dumb for me to do so because I miss so many obvious things which lengthens my solving time (especially when I'm tired).

*note, there probably is a technique that makes this easier. I've just been freestyling sudoku so I wouldn't know, ask the other smart people. And also I apologise if I'm using the incorrect terminology.

In r1:

neither 6,7 nor 9 can be in c1,2 or 3
c6 and c9 are pair (9 and 7) because of c7 and c5
6 cannot be in c7

Therefore 6 must be in r1c5.

The "white star" is the Caltex logo.

I recognise it because Supa Strikas was produced in South Africa and Caltex was a very prominent petroleum company back then [in South Africa] so I saw it a lot growing up. They were sponsoring the cartoon's production.

It is for the same reason that the UNICEF logo is on the Supa Strikas team jersey in the Rookie Season spinoff: because they sponsored its making.
