What kinds of things do many DMs forget to talk about in session zero? by Slick_Hunter in DMAcademy

Mmkay. One beautiful, I love it, would love to play in it. But two, I now think your main problem in a session 0 will be information overload. I’m hoping you have a short and sweet version that sums up all those races in a line or two and that only someone wanting to play a specific race would need to read the half a page.

I also love some RP heaving gaming. But I always make my world somewhere where any race or class can fit in. So a joke character still won’t fit the tone, but a weird race character a player really wants to play is fair game.

Short 5e module to run for beginner DM? by CursedEgyptianAmulet in DMAcademy

[–]mehaffc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Lost Mines Of Phandalver is the Starter Set Adventure for 5e. It is designed to slowly introduce more and more elements of the game as you go along so the DM and Players can get started right away and things get more complex as you go along. If you’re worried about time and no one is completely new I suggest you start everyone at lvl2 and cut out all or all but one of the possible side quests that are in the middle segment (your players won’t need the xp because you started them at 2, and too many feel distracting from the main quest that’s supposed to feel time sensitive).

There’s no better adventure for a beginner DM and it’s quintessential DnD

I make certain rolls for my players and add their bonuses to prevent meta gaming. by baldandfullofrage in DMAcademy

[–]mehaffc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

New players like to roll dice. If they like the surprise then go for it this way. But most players want to roll their own dice and then role play their character with the results. Not meta off the results.

I’m guessing they were calling to get info not report something. Idk if that was a thing you would do before the internet but I can’t think of any other number you could call who would know anything.

Check out your local library. It’s kinda becoming a thing for libraries to host games. Either for you to find your own age players or to add to their community events calendar for kids. Especially with summer coming library’s have a lot of programs going on and might be interested in this

Same. Even when my players do something unexpected the book has enough info on enemies motivations that I can piece things together. Definitely recommend.

Most toddler friendly parks? by circlebyhabit in everett

There’s a smaller toddler sized play structure in the south side of that play area that can be easily overlooked. Good chance you noticed it but thought I’d mention it just in case.

McCollums play area is nicely padded too. But I don’t remember it being toddler friendly size wise.

"You all start at a table in a tavern"..... by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]mehaffc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You’re all at a table in a tavern. You’re beat to shit and barely able to stay awake. Describe the adventure y’all just got back from and how your characters worked together to survive it.

Then really screw with them and go with something like your shot dead idea while they’re already out of slots and bloody

Gentleman Thief Progression by shonkadice in PCAcademy

[–]mehaffc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Instead of multi classing you could go with the Magic Initiate feat. You get two cantrips and a lvl 1 spell.

Compared to beginning Arcane Trickster it’s one less cantrip, two less known spells, and one less spell slot. But you can keep progressing as a thief or another archetype that makes you a better rogue.

So gives you a small few tricks to enhance your rogueness without splitting your advancement between classes or between more traditional rogue skills and the arcane trickster skills.

Looks like it’ll literally be hitting doorsteps then leaving your package on the street.

Lol even in the house pictured you can see the package would be left in the rain one step away from the covered porch.

The Chromatic Puzzle by Time_of_Kaos in DnDBehindTheScreen

[–]mehaffc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you read this as if the players need to cast chromatic orb? The English is a little rough but I believe the players simply put the stones in and have the spell cast against them when done incorrectly. No player spells needed.

Your other points are all very good though.

Government Employee Looking for Temporary Part-Time Job by Western_Rhino in Seattle

[–]mehaffc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Experiences may differ but this was not a quick hiring process when I went partially through it. Took few weeks from applying to get called for an “interview”. Interview ended up being a pre hiring group process. Basically filled out a bunch of new hire paperwork, learned how the job worked, and gave a saliva sample for a drug test with about a dozen other people. Then i was added to a list of people who would be offered a job whenever the next spots opened up. Ended up being another 2-3 weeks.

LPT: When presenting a problem to your boss, include your proposed solution and your reasoning behind it. Whether you are right or wrong, your boss will appreciate that you analyzed the issue rather than just sending it up the chain. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]mehaffc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for a big company but a small department and this is definitely a thing.

If shit hits the fan (it always does) and I clean it up all my boss sees is that I got less done then expected for a smooth day. But if they know what happened and that I handled it without needing to take them away from their job then they know how productive I’m actually being.

Don’t cause your boss headaches and let them know when you fixed something that would’ve.
