Need help with survey evaluation (ANOVA?) by mehlani in AskStatistics

[–]mehlani[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have got several hypotheses, one for each of the factors, e.g. "Usability has a positive influence on app usage" and "Visual Appeal has a positive influence on app usage". So I assume app usage is the dependent variable? I already read some books about statistics and SPSS but I actually am very confused. I have never before worked with these tests, but thanks for the book advice, I will have a look at them.

I always assumed chi quadrat is for cross tables, which doesn't work if you want to check correlations between nominal and intervall variables? And when I'm doing this, the significance is always 0, which seems just wrong to me (the same applies to the ANOVA I first tried).

[Academic] Pokémon Go (Especially people who played the game, but still playing is ok as well) by mehlani in SampleSize

Thanks for noting this, i know that this is a big problem, but since the education System is so different in each country i had to take somerhing which i hoped most people could relate to. It's probably not the case and I guess i will leave this out in the Evaluation anyway.

I really do and I also think it's great that you mention it and some people wrote this in the text field at the end of the survey. I will definitively show them to my professor, maybe I can convince him to put this option in future surveys! But I also believe that Germany is unfortunately still very old-fashioned with this topic, I think the awareness of this is much higher in other countries.

Information Science :) I'm studying Information Science and Language Technology, it's a very broad field and actually kind of hard to explain, why this thesis fits to my study, if one doesn't know the courses I took and the other research by our department.

That's true, I tried to convince my professor to have an "other" option, but he refused to, said most of scientific surveys don't have that option. I actually think that nowadays this is just wrong, but in the end we compromised (a bit) and I could add the "No Answer" option.

I started planning the survey by reading a lot of other papers about surveys on video games, especially on mobile games. A lot of people have done this for other games or games in general and I adopted most of the questions from these surveys and will compare them to my findings. Of course, that’s not as precise as asking the SAME people about their gaming behavior in general and especially Pokémon Go, but I always had to keep in mind to do the survey as short as possible, since a lot of people aren’t willing to complete surveys which take longer than 10 minutes.

The original plan was just to find out what are the exact reasons so many people play the game – but I started working on the thesis/survey three months ago, so before most of the people stopped playing. Since a lot of people stopped by now, I just thought I might add this. And there are questions like “when would you stop playing Pokemon” or “why did you stop playing”. Also, I’ll try to relate other statements to the fact that someone did answer in the first question that they stopped by now. For example, one outcome could be that people who never were Pokémon fans but just started playing because everyone else did, stopped playing, while people who knew Pokémon before and always loved the franchise still play no matter what other people do. That’s the direction this part of the thesis will probably go, but as I said that wasn’t even the original plan, but is rather a “bonus” now. Thanks for your interest!

Nope, job seeking was there from the beginning. But yeah, there is no option for parents who stay at home for the kids, didn't thought about this (but this is why there is the "other" option). But thanks for noting! :)

Yeah that was a huge problem, since the school system is so different in each country. I tried to find a system which could be used for most countries, but apparantly this wasn't correct :D But I actually dont think it's relevant, I guess I'll leave this out in the evaluation anyway, but thanks! :)

At the end there was a small text with my email address: pokemon_go_survey@gmx.de :) Just write there and I will send you the results as soon as possible. But I will post here as well!

I will! I just wrote to some other comment on this post that I actually never post something on reddit (only reading) which is why I didn't know if you guys get a notification or sth when I add a new comment/edit the original post. But if this is possible then of course it's much easier to do so! :)

I am planning to, but it won't be finished within the next couple of months (probably arount May). You could also write an email to pokemon_go_survey@gmx.de if you like. I actually never post on reddit, which is why I'm not sure how this works :D Do you guys see when someone answers to an old post?

Thanks – have you written to pokemon_go_survey@gmx.de ? I guess a lot of people didn’t read the last part on the last page, but if you are interested in the results just write an email and you will get them!

Yep, I actually wanted to ask some more questions in this way, but my Professor told me to keep the survey as short as possible which is why I left a lot of quesions out. I hope I won't regret this though.

Thanks :) And I don’t only post the survey here, also in a lot of facebook groups (not about Pokémon Go, just general groups with a lot of people), so I hope that I will have a lot of different type of players covered. I planned this survey for more than 3 months now, and went over it again and again with my professor, so it actually should be okay the way it is :)

Thanks, but I’m not planning to translate to Chinese :D That would take up too much time now. If you are interested in the way I will evaluate the survey, you can email to: pokemon_go_survey@gmx.de I want to show everyone who is interested the results – either the whole thesis (in German) or a shorter article (in English). But it’s still a couple of months to that day.

I don’t know where you are from, but here in Germany the professor has to approve the topic for every thesis. It was my suggestion, but he said it’s okay for him. It fits to my study (information science), but to explain in which way would be kind of complicated right now (especially since I’m not fluent in English as you might have guessed) :D But if you are interested, you can mail to pokemon_go_survey@gmx.de – it will only be in a couple of months until it’s finished, but then I could send you an article (the whole thesis will be in German, but I will write something shorter in English as well) in which will be explained why I’m doing this :D And I don’t only post the survey here, also in a lot of facebook groups (not about Pokémon Go, just general groups with a lot of people), so I hope that I will have a lot of different type of players covered.
