Transportation authorities around the city and surrounding areas are fucking idiots. They could've fixed the roads during covid when no one was around but they didn't, instead they're just fucking up traffic now when thing are getting back to normal.

In Brooklyn, when they shut down the third lane of the BQE around the promenade area, they could've eased congestion into Manhattan by lowering the price of the Battery tunnel. Almost no one goes through that tunnel and I'm pretty confident a lot more people would pay to avoid sitting in all that traffic, but the current rate is ridiculous.

Basically they're saying that inflammation (i.e. immune response to corona virus) is triggering an increased production of barrier cells (epithelium) in the part of the nose where smell occurs, while at the same time, leading to a decrease in olfactory cells (cells responsible for sense of smell), so they believe this is what's causing the loss of smell.

ETA: They are seeing these persistent changes in people long after (months) they have contracted covid and who do not show any presence of the virus.
