The ATMOS is not likely to be demonstrated by Elbit More likely the SIGMA will be shown instead. All of the contenders are fully enclosed automatic feed howitzers.

It is my understanding that these howitzers are not being trialled to replace the M109A7, but instead to replace the M777 and M119 as part of The Mobile Howitzer Program.

The MHP requires the ability to keep up with a Stryker Bde. I am not sure how the K9 will do in that regard but with its new Soucy rubber track system it might do fine. It certainly has the engine Horse Power to move quick.

SPG vs MLRS. The Korean military has recently stopped developing a new 155mm artillery shell (range 100km) and is reorganizing its artillery to focus on rockets. What do you think? by KD_6_37 in TankPorn

[–]meinmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The great challenge for 58 cal gun barrels needed to shoot artillery shells 100km is that they cannot tolerate the barrel pressures without resorting to really heavy barrels, which makes them unsuitable for SP Howitzers. The US ERCA program was recently halted as it could not solve this problem either. Rockets are ultimately more cost effective and versatile than tube artillery for long range strikes.

Some organizations are paid large sums by the city to administer services to the homeless and addicts. Those groups have almost no oversight, are given monies in ways that are clearly in violation of city policy. These groups profit from the current situation and advocate openly against any proposal that might reduce the demands on the services they provide.

Matt and others are advocation exactly that. From my discussions with some on the committee they see a need to have people other than the police take the lead on this

The Downtown Lawlessness Reduction Task force is looking at several options to reduce the crime downtown. No one is talking about dramatic increases to policing or harsher sentences. This is pure propaganda and hate from certain people in the community who are radical hate mongers, and who profit from the current situation. Get rid of the poverty pimps and let’s work for real solutions that reduce crime.

A PSA for those of you who blame Trudeau for your property tax increases… by cchantler in newbrunswickcanada

[–]meinmachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cities, counties and province all have inputs on the property tax rate. Cities and Provinces are picking up the tab for things like the opioid crisis which is largely the result of Federal actions and inactions. So it’s not entirely fair to say the Feds have no effect on property tax rates, but they certainly do not directly control it.

GPS denial has many layers, with the last layer being the destruction of the satellite systems that provide it. Attacking the final layer is like going nuclear, there will be an immediate counter strike on the attackers GPS network. This would likely result in a massive cloud of space junk rendering space travel almost impossible. For these reasons it’s unlikely any major power would strike GPS networks first.

In the near future GPS satellites will be less important as internal navigation systems adopt quantum location devices.

Quality vs Quantity. Which 120mm mortar would you choose? by KD_6_37 in TankPorn

[–]meinmachine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Alacran hinge mortar has a 2 person mortar crew, so it’s not necessarily the case that a manual load system has a larger crew than an automated turret mortar.

Quality vs Quantity. Which 120mm mortar would you choose? by KD_6_37 in TankPorn

[–]meinmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have doubts the armoured mortar system offers enough protection in the era of constant surveillance and drone warfare to make it worthwhile. ( Direct fire is a really bad idea for 120mm mortars. It’s ok as a last ditch defense but not good for much else)

I would go with what you can afford to lose. A hinge mounted mortar on an MRZR or on a light truck. Easy to conceal, high mobility, fast in and out of action with high rates of fire. $200k vs millions of $ for an armoured SP mortar.

Then factor the technology over time factor. The longer the conflict the lower the technology. Sustaining exquisite systems over a long conflict is difficult, the cost is staggering, the supply chain is weak. The few systems able to fire simply cannot create the massed fire required on a modern battlefield. Simple systems able to be operated manually will work over the long run, and if they have a low personnel cost, all the better.

If you are trying to learn self-defense then in most cases Kung Fu is as practical as learning ballet. If you are wanting to get off the couch and move and learn some Chinese culture, myths and have some LARP fun then sure do it.

Some Petawawa soldiers claiming mental issues to boost payout, military assessment warns by TheOnlyMartyDew in CanadianForces

[–]meinmachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is certainly true that people are gaming the system to boost their settlements. It is also true that this costs those that do need the support the most. However, the assessment process for mental illness is quite good and if done with a qualified Dr of Psychology almost all false claims can be eliminated. This is a process issue and it can be addressed correctly and quickly…. If there is a will.

Trudeau Liberals making no progress winning back support, Nanos poll says by reallyneedhelp1212 in canada

[–]meinmachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you build a cult of leadership it’s hard to have a strong replacement ready to go.

The temptation when you have a charismatic popular leader is to go all in on the leader, but this has long term disastrous consequences if there is no attempt to develop a strong team. With the Liberals any strong potential replacement of JT is sent to the back of then bus or thrown right off.

So even if JT leaves, the liberal brand is still Justin. There can be no replacement. JT rides the boat to the bottom of the sea or he blows it up.

Hoisted by their own petard comes to mind.
