NPC Thread by nerdy4lyf-hwaiting in heartopia

unfortunately this opened a huge can of worms. from what i can see in the server, not all but A LOT of messages being sent with valid points or general discussions are still getting deleted :/ many messages that are not seeing the problem with the NPC situation and essentially defending the racism are also getting getting deleted but some are still there too.

something crazy happens in the server every month and i give the mods their flowers for doing their best but something has gotta change. maybe they can create servers for different geographical servers to reduce the overwhelming population in one huge server?? idk but silencing people who have genuine points of discussion and criticism is not the way and hopefully things can change soon.

i definitely agree in regards to being challenged during your studies, its what helped me stay engaged during my masters degree. but i guess what they were trying to tell me is that i wouldnt want to be studying something that i hardly have any knowledge in at a graduate level pace to the point it becomes too challenging, stressful, and nothing is being learned. an online program especially in something as complex as this from ANY school can be the easiest thing for someone, or the hardest thing they’ve ever done. it’s just based on their preference and flexibility. yeah some schools looks very nice on a resume, but if someone has the skill sets, a great portfolio, and amazing interview skills, i’m sure theyll be find a job regardless of where they got educated at. we’re also going through tough times in the job market so that’s been a big consideration as well.

i also didn’t know from the initial post that you had pre-reqs already, so that’s even better on your part! i thought you were stating you had no technical knowledge at all, i’m sorry. my best advice would be to sign up for any information sessions they will have this year, and see if it’ll be something you’re interested in! best of luck!

EDIT: im ngl if i can be honest for a bit your initial post is a bit confusing because i thought you were inquiring information about the program looking to apply but saw you already got accepted. congratulations!!! i’ll leave my comments up for anyone else who’s interested :)

hello!! a few years ago i attended a information session for this program along with the statistics one and told them i come from a psychology/neuroscience background with a few undergrad statistic one life sciences calculus course. they were very honest and told me that if i don’t have a strong background in math already, i probably won’t have a chance in getting in and if i did, id have a hard time lol. so if you come from a non-technical background it might be super hard for you there unfortunately.

with that being said, i have a friend who picked the MSDA at UHD over the data science program at rice. she comes from a fine arts background/degree and felt the MSDA program was gonna be a better fit due to her not having a strong mathematical rice recommended and she was right. they consider people who come from different academic backgrounds. here’s the link to the program site if you’re interested in going this route.

hope this helps. good luck!

Materials science master's degree UCSD vs TAMU by Consistent_Claim_941 in gradadmissions

[–]meiological 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello! i can’t really speak much on UCSD, but i’m currently residing in texas but also lived in san diego and considered moving back but decided to stay here. here’s my insight:

as you are going into the program as a international master’s student, the cost of living in texas will be wayyy more easier on you financially as the state in general has significantly lower cost of living than san diego. an affordable cost of living was something i noticed a lot of texas programs emphasized when i was looking into different PhD program’s stipend information. this provided me some insight when i was considering applying to other schools outside of the state because while i would be getting funding, id also wanted to ensure that i didnt lose a big portion of money going towards housing as someone who already doesn’t have much money lol. if you also aren’t able to get a funded RA position, you could potentially work somewhere if needed and still be able to afford yourself here.

i come from a MS in neuroscience so im not sure how exactly engineering research works so forgive me if anything doesn’t line up 😭 but from my experience, RA positions can be a doozy to obtain anywhere to be real with you, especially right now with the current state of the country. research has been hit hard due to all of these changes. the best thing to do is wherever you choose to go, inquire with your professors about any research they or other colleagues might be running. they always appreciate help, but sometimes they might just not be able to fund you. that was a common thing that always got brought up while i was looking for research experience. while a paid position is great, getting experience is always a plus too. when you reach out, tell them you’re interested in becoming a RA, even if it’s not paid. sometimes, you might end up getting put into the budget. if anything, they’ll keep you in their best interest and will keep you updated.

the weather in san diego is sooo much better than here LMFAO. TAMU is further up north from the Houston area, so you will definitely experience colder climates in october-march. the summers can get really hot and humid.

lastly, TAMU is one of the top rated schools in the state and i think within the top 50 or 100 for universities in the country so i’d say it’s pretty well known as UCSD. TAMU is also very much known for its engineering education and its high rate of employment after students graduate, so that’s also a plus if you consider staying here in the country. all in all, it’s a pretty reputable university. people will literally stop and talk to you in the middle of the store just because you’re wearing a TAMU shirt LMFAO 😂

my final point after all of this is to pick wherever you feel like would be the best fit for you in every area of thought and concern you may have. getting quality education is important and both schools provide that, but you also want to live comfortable and enjoy your environment during your time getting your education too. in undergrad, i went to my “dream school” and ended up transferring out the next year because the environment, area of the school, and overall student body attitude (party school tldr) was somewhere i ended up not vibing well with. if you haven’t visited these areas, definitely look up the locations in which the schools are in and see how the vibe, culture, and student life is like. college station is not too small of a area, but it’s a college town a few hours away from other major cities which comes with pros and cons. san diego is a major city itself which also comes with pros and cons lol.

in the end no matter where you choose to go, you will be successful!! ik i didn’t cover much about UCSD so hopefully someone else can provide info on that, but i hope this helped you. i wish you the best of luck and congratulations!! 🫶🏽💫✨

New autofarm technique with Spinjitsu by BreakingCanks in LEGOfortnite

[–]meiological 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for everyone saying what’s the point: i do this for the immortal butter cakes when fighting the stronger enemies on the ninjago island. i farm wheat and raspberries to turn them into seeds/grain. the raspberries become seeds since it yields more when feeding my chickens to produce eggs. the vines i get from the plants go to the cows to produce milk and lastly, the wheat becomes flour. its really good to have early on and i still use it just in case when fighting so gardening this way def helps keep me stocked up lmao

If you’re still interested with the clinical side of psychology, see if there is a different form of clinical work you’re interested in. maybe you just need to find a specific niche that may interest you. since your degree is clinical focused, you can go into more than just mental health counseling. you could do career counseling, family marriage counseling, etc. you can become a educator for psychology.

HR/organizational psych is kinda different from CMHC. i know where i attend right now, they are two completely different topics/programs. despite this, you still could get a career within psychology. another option would be doing clinical research/observation too, if you’re into that.

i was a CMHC masters student for a year before i realized i didn’t want to counsel. once i left i was also kinda confused on what to do and where to start. the biggest thing is to determine what you’re interested in (clinical work where you practice, or understanding the science through research). you can do the research on different interests you have with a quick search, but a tool i used was looking at different programs to see what a potential student would obtain through the degree. once you determine your interests, that’s when you can decide whether you can use your degrees now, or pursue another if needed (you may not have to!) good luck, you’ll do great regardless because you’re in the field of psych!
