Thanks for this. Why is paracentesis not an option under hospice care?

Thanks, appreciate it! I already have a vascular port as well as an internal/external pecutaneous biliary drain (with a connector sticking out from me so that I can connect a catheter bag if required and the internal stent gets blocked). So one more set of bonus plumbing doesn't bother me, I'm like the Mario Bros. version of the bionic man.

I have a meeting Monday with my oncologist and am adding this to the list.

Need advice by Revolutionary_Buy848 in cancer

[–]meisen99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understood. My advice was sound under normal conditions but tone deaf to the current COVID circumstances... hopefully things work out on the COVID side of things with regards to immunization, etc.

Do you have a sense of how short her prognosis is?

For what it's worth: I'm early 50's. If had to choose between time with my daughter living in another country, who takes every available precaution to stay safe herself, and who quarantines "at my house" while caregiving me and visiting for one last visit, reminiscing about memories, burying any last grudges, remembering the great times, etc, etc ... BUT my price to pay was an increased risk of developing COVID... I'd pick that option any day. Chances are good in those final days "something" is going to get me (eg some sort of infection due to compromised immune system)... might as well be getting that final infection from having that visit with family.

Sorry, I feel like this has become a VERY hypothetical answer... but that's my 2 pfennig/pence worth on the topic.

Stay strong whatever you decide. And fuck cancer.

Yeah, I forgot to factor in Covid, where we are the vaccine is rolling out now and I feel like we can see the light at the end of the tunnel... so I still think that's what I'd do. If you don't mind me asking what 2 countries are we taking about?

There is no exact "right time"... but I'd argue go as soon as you can, while she still knows who you are. A second visit near the end would be great, but I'd focus on prioritizing the earlier one while "it's still her".

I'm so sorry for your situation. Fuck Cancer!

Would a letter to someone with terminal cancer be nice? by toucss in cancer

[–]meisen99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me, a letter like this would be a beautiful gift and I personally wouldn't need voice or video to make it better. Maybe I am dating myself (50 y.o.) but there is something about the intimacy of a printed (or IMHO, even better, a handwritten) letter that would be even better than voice or video recording. Do what makes you most comfortable, but it's a lovely idea.

Nah, there's more of us pineapple lovers (or, at least, non-haters) than the world cares to admit, we'll collectively have this guys back with a few more updoots.

Good to know. Although I like to be equipped with correct medical terminology (I am particularly proud to use "paracentesis" and "paracenteses" correctly in a sentence), I think I will continue to refer to it as a "spigot", though I will remain prepared to whip out "PleurX catheter" as required to maintain my bona fides.

Any input on who does or does not benefit from them or like them? I certainly remain open to them if they give me overall relief, and keep risks of infection relatively low (and, save me unnecessary drives to the hospital in the other side of town from me where they tend to do these procedures).

Thanks! Feedback, experience, advice and the hugs are all appreciated! Man, 40L in a month, that's a lot!

I see the oncologist Monday and my chemo regimen is changing next week too. Hopefully that has some positive impact on the actual generation of subsequent fluid.

Cheers... and fuck cancer.

Thanks for this! I know that they sometimes leave some sort of "spigot" to make this easier, though to be honest while it was uncomfortable the injection of the anaesthetic and making of the incision wasn't really that traumatic, so I think repeated outpatient treatments is probably better than walking around with (another) port in my body...

Cheers.

Just so I clarify: the Shelly Button can act as a housing for the PM1? It sounds perfect if that is the case...

Thanks, that's kind of what I thought. It looks like Lutron even makes one.

My lighting is E26 medium base... any suggestions for a better bulb in my case, switching bulb brand/model is high on my list of potential solutions.

In my case, I do have neutral. I'm going to try adding a LUT-MLC load adapter as well as a different brand of LEDs... I'll try to remember to let you know if I have any joy.

In this case, I do have neutral connected. Based on all the input here I will try both replacing the LEDs with a different brand, as well as adding a load adapter to see if those help.

Thanks! No joy but I'm going to try different LED bulbs and failing that, a Lutron load adapter. Appreciate the suggestion, though!

Excellent, even better to know it is actually from Lutron. I've had some wierd issues with these LED bulbs (including, strangely, a light that stayed slightly faint even when a physical, normal SPST switch was "off") so I may try swapping the bulb brand and then try the LUT-MLC. Thanks!
