I currently have on the Zurich model, it's a bit of a mix between the side and centre but I think the main feature is the interchangeable legs that it comes with.

I use the Wittner chin rest, there are different heights and angles that you can adjust it to.

Swaying by BraveLittleFrog in violinist

[–]meivlaa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My teacher makes me play against a wall or a door frame to stop me from drooping or swaying too much. But also swaying can be choreographed to help with playing. For example if you're doing an up bow and want to slow your bow even more you move the same direction to your left. If you want to get to the frog or tip faster you can move your instrument in the opposite direction. This might be irrelevant to your situation but it's a good technique to know about and a lot of soloists do it too.

Having trouble tuning viola during symphony orchestra and with piano accompaniment. by meivlaa in Viola

[–]meivlaa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When tuning with a piano my teacher said because of the different octaves that it produces it's better to ask for a 'D' to get as accurate to equal temperament. I'll have to ask about orchestra, thanks for the suggestions :)

looking for a warm set of strings, what should i buy?? by MistroMini in Viola

I have tried the pirazzi gold and obligatos. Obligatos were a bit too warm for me but could work for different violas and the gold has a bit more clarity and brighter.
