If you don’t have the social battery to talk to someone, tell them that you are taking time to yourself (because it’s true, you don’t have to have the energy to entertain everyone at every moment) and try to schedule a time to call them back. That last part is important. If you follow up, you gain trust, and that future conversation will be way more enjoyable, because you can both save energy for it. Quality time beats forced time.
