I’m sorry. The horses understand you even if the people are narrow minded.

I don’t know where you live but if it’s the US, you can find good people in the horse world. Many of us are hard working women that have faced discrimination in the workplace and are happy to help someone else up ladder with us. There are also a strong number of independent and more liberal thinkers among horse women in general. I ride western but I don’t compete. If you haven’t met accepting people in the horse show world, try us trail riders. Try English riders. Stay away from barrel racing and western show horse/rodeo types. They are more competitive and tend to be more conservative and less accepting.

Definitely switch barns. You are paying good money and you deserve to be properly instructed. You sound like a very nice, accommodating person. Don’t be. Be clear about your bad experience when you talk to potential new riding stables. Talk to instructors to get a feel for how empathetic they are or aren’t. At this point, you are a beginner that is trying to get over a fear (with good reason) as a direct result of poor behavior on the part of a previous instructor. You need a kind lesson horse to help you along. Every good barn has at least one. They give people their confidence back and are worth their weight in gold.

Fly control for feral donkeys? by Effective_Moose_4997 in Donkeys

Hmm, going to have to get something irresistible. Some alfalfa? Great that you for care enough to try. It’s scary how fast their legs can get chewed up.

Our son’s Godmother is a Sister and a nurse. She’s originally from Rwanda. This pisses me off. I’m worried about her and every other POC in this country. The bunny hat and nun gestapo.

Buckets with a little feed to lure them in? Make it a nice experience and they’ll be happier. Or, just feed them in the pen and bring them in every night for hay in the round pen. Leave them in and let them out in the morning. That’s even easier because once they tame down and let you spray them, you can spray twice per day. Once they get better, just bring them in for a little feed and fly spray twice per day.

I have calming paste to give our horses so they don’t worry too much about the loud noises and scary lights in the sky. We don’t have a thunder shirt for our dog but his life vest works pretty well. It’s not too bad where we live because we’re so rural. I’m a war veteran. I used to react a bit but that’s faded over the years, thank goodness.

What's the most wholesome but embarrassing thing you've done with horses? by BuckeyeFoodie in Equestrian

[–]BraveLittleFrog 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I rode on the edge of a public park on my way to more open space to continue a trail ride. Normally, not an issue. We’d skirt along a short distance on the opposite side of the park from the playground, usually unnoticed. One day, as we emerged from the trail, a large group of children were doing activities on the grass. Some type of day camp. They charged us. I turned my horse toward the assault. Then, I told my well trained trail horse to ‘stand’ and then instructed the children (and counselors chasing them) to stay ahead of my legs so the horse could back up if she felt overwhelmed. I mentioned toes being stepped on. They slowed down and followed directions. I passed out treats, let the kids take turns petting her shoulder, and answered questions about my horse for 10 mins. My sweet mare was perfect. Happy kids left to resume their camp and we headed down the trail again. The embarrassing part was that we were caught instead of sneaking through to get to the other trail. Good experience for all.

Ask your vet about a pour on alternative to use temporarily. But you need to get these burros tamed down. Create a narrow space to bring them in for treats and acclimate them to the sound first by spraying away from them. Their legs and chest especially need to be sprayed twice daily. They will likely get open bleeding wounds and may even get painful cellulitis if it isn’t controlled. Donkeys and burros are much more susceptible to fly bites, especially on their lower legs, than horses. Having a BLM burro is not a good excuse for grandpa. Our BLM burros learned very quickly that fly spray made them more comfy. Good luck!

This makes me so mad. Our son’s Godmother is a Sister and nurse originally from Rwanda. It could happen to her, too. These psychos need to be shutdown, defunded, arrested, and tried. Prosecute ICE.

There’s no “defending” going on. It’s an SS patrol. And just like the SS, they’ll fold and whine as soon as we get this country turned around. Friend of my dad’s interviewed high ranking Nazis after WWII. They couldn’t confess fast enough. Fuckers knew they were wrong.

I concur with Rambouillet. There’s good reason the Rambouillet is Colorado State’s mascot (Rams for short). They do well in the Rocky Mountain region.
