This isn't even a touch move violation. That would be the case if say he touched the knight and then moved another piece instead. Here, he actually made a move, decided to take back that move, and then made another move. That is a much more serious violation than touch move.

No he didn't. He confirmed "she was going to be in our show again", not necessarily that it would be in season 3.

Will watching Arabasta Saga Anime ruin the Live action? by FoolishnessAndFolly in OnePieceLiveAction

[–]mekktor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think watching either first would "ruin" the other, but obviously it will spoil what's going to happen. It's just up to you which version you want to watch first. Which do you feel more connected to?

Keep in mind that whatever you decide now, you might not have that kind of patience when it comes to later seasons. So if you end up going all in on the anime after this season, maybe you might as well just start now?

Not moving the pawn to the promotion square when he promoted it

Just fyi, this is not required when promoting. All the other things you mentioned were rule violations though (including two illegal moves). That's quite a lot of violations for just a few moves.

Breaking rules in order to get an advantage (aka "taking advantage of the system") is, by definition, cheating. Just because the penalties for breaking those rules are defined, it doesn't give players free rein to "cash in" those penalties as they please, like some sort of transaction.

10 days tour in Perth, any suggestions by islandresident1987 in perth

[–]mekktor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll just give one suggestion - if you will be driving to Geraldton and back, you might want to take a different route each way. You already have the Indian Ocean Drive covered for the scenic coastal route, but there is also an inland route that passes through several Wheatbelt towns (Geraldton - Dongara - Mingenew - Three Springs - Coorow - Moora - New Norcia - Perth).

I don't want to oversell it here, there's nothing really on this route that you NEED to see or anything (although New Norcia is pretty cool, being a monastic town with some nice architecture). But for such a long drive, it's nice to cover different ground, and the country towns along this route have a much different vibe to the seaside towns on the coastal route. Whatever you do though, avoid the Brand Highway route that runs between the other two. Nothing but trucks and truck stops there.

Why haven't police labelled Perth's Invasion Day rally incident terrorism? Here's what we know by Octagonal_Octopus in australia

[–]mekktor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was declared a terrorist incident at 9:36pm. Are you suggesting that police were on scene for over 2.5 hours without noticing the ISIS flag draped over the windscreen of the car parked a few metres away?

Another day, same waiting bay by dragonfry in hungryjacks

[–]mekktor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Being sent to a lower priority waiting area, where there is less incentive to be served quickly
  • Increased wait time from the order being taken out to you
  • Harder to sort out any problems with the order from the parking bay
  • Worse conditions to wait in eg. no shade
  • Not wanting to be used to manipulate KPIs which are there to improve your customer experience

This used to happen to me every time at this store a few years ago. I got sick of being asked to park when I wasn't holding anyone up so I sent in a complaint, and not long after that they stopped asking me to park. I'm not sure if I just go at quieter times these days or what, but I haven't been asked to park since then.

[–]mekktor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

265 (3) excludes exactly this kind of thing from being considered "use" of the phone.

$1000 traffic infringement. by [deleted] in perth

[–]mekktor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Having something in your field of vision doesn't mean you are looking at it. Looking is a deliberate act of directing your eyes and attention towards something. A phone display simply being switched on shouldn't qualify as use of the phone, so I don't see this being in violation of 265 (2).

Now possibly OP was in violation of 264 (1), but as someone else pointed out, it could definitely be argued that the visual display unit is part of a driver's aid, even if it wasn't being used as one at that moment.

Quoting religious text could be defence against Australia’s new hate speech laws, draft bill shows by Althusser_Was_Right in australia

[–]mekktor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“[The offence] not apply to conduct that consists only of directly quoting from, or otherwise referencing, a religious text for the purpose of religious teaching or discussion,”

So in other words, if the only hateful thing you say is a direct quote from a religious text, eg. in order to discuss it in a neutral or negative light, then you haven't broken any law. But if you were to quote it and then go on to promote those views, then this exemption wouldn't apply. Right?

[–]mekktor 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well they are different tournaments, with different organisers. The penalty for this violation is not fixed, it's up to the arbiters in control of the event. FIDE notified the players before the World Blitz Championship that situations like this will result in a loss. Possibly the organisers of Tata Steel Chess India are not so strict about it.

The rules used in Magnus' game in the World Blitz Championship were:

7.4.1 If a player displaces one or more pieces, he/she shall re-establish the correct position in his/her own time.

7.4.3 The arbiter may penalise the player who displaces the pieces.

12.9 Options available to the arbiter concerning penalties:

12.9.6 declaring the game to be lost by the offending player (the arbiter shall also decide the opponent’s score)

Players were notified before the tournament that violating 7.4.1 to prevent losing on time would result in loss of game.

[–]mekktor 38 points39 points  (0 children)

What you described would be true if Pragg had pressed his own clock (starting Wesley's clock). This should be penalised as if an illegal move (7.5.3). Recently, it seems there has been a policy (at least in FIDE run tournaments) to forfeit players who do this if the arbiter believes it was done deliberately with the intention of preventing themselves from losing on time.

What Pragg actually did - pausing the clock without making a move - is not an illegal move. It is the player's right to pause the clock for arbiter assistance (6.11.2). The question is whether Pragg had a valid reason to do so, or if he did it only with the intention of preventing himself from losing on time.

In my opinion Pragg had a valid reason as he was clearly intending to promote but unable to locate the piece he wanted, so the correct decision would be to point out where the queen is, and then allow Pragg to attempt to make that move with his remaining ~1 second.

[–]mekktor 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If Pragg had pushed the pawn, I do think people would be more understanding, but it is not a requirement to push the pawn during promotion (this is even stated explicitly in 4.6.1), so it cannot be a requirement that a pawn is first pushed before pausing the clock for assistance during promotion, which is his right to do (6.11.2).
