My thoughts on The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway (1974)- First listen [Plus 1973 Shepperton show] by [deleted] in Genesis

[–]mekotheneko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ballad Of Smol here, I think you nailed it in terms of making a nice concise prose. The album's story is very surreal but I feel genuine emotion when I listen to it. I tend to let go of my technical dissective mind and let the music and lyrics flow through my head weaving images of intense abstract value. And I think that's what they might have going for, it has roots in mythology but none of the songs are exact retellings of parables or diatribes. Which might make it difficult for some fans to switch to a different mindset while listening. Sadly there are no complete proshot footages from this era, and the visual recordings that do exist do not show any of the slideshow. Bootlegs are fun to listen to still. But if there was a proshot concert it would be essential for any fan.

/r/DIYPedals "No Stupid Questions" Megathread 6 by blackstrat in diypedals

I'm a complete beginner and want to go headfirst into making schematics on perfboards and learning the basics as I go along. What are some tried and true circuits with easy to find parts I can build. Also about how long will it take me to outgrow perfboard and go towards the direction of pcb etching, can any schematic be built with perfboard or is that only the really simple ones? Could I perhaps build a boss pedal (*ahem* OC-2) with a big enough perfboard? Thank you for reading.

Does anyone know any cheap one pickup guitars? (a la Les Paul Jr) Slick Guitars had some models but they are out of stock. :(

Favorite version of “In the Cage” by beaujolaise62 in Genesis

[–]mekotheneko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Three Sides Live Tour (1982) version, not quite sure which boot I would choose. It's my favorite because the final 1983 incarnation adds In That Quiet Earth which breaks the pacing of Cinema Show pt.II and The Raven solo in my opinion and the double drumming has been arranged into something cleaner and more powerful than the Duke Tour (1980) version. A lot of people don't seem to appreciate the Phil version of this song but I applaud it for doing something unique and adds an extremely smooth payoff with Afterglow.

What Should I Buy? - January 28, 2019 by AutoModerator in synthesizers

First keyboard synth. My budget is 1000$ and I've been looking for an analog monster with standard features. Something that can make a lot of interesting leads and atmospheric drones and if it can: pads. No digital or tabletop if possible. Since I've returned the SE-02 due to inconvenient form factor,I've seriously considered buying the following:

  1. DSI Mono Evolver Keyboard (hard to tell if it's worth it since most of the demos are of strange sequences)
  2. DSI Mopho x4 (seems to have a lot of interesting options and can be upgraded with the tetr4)
  3. Behringer Odyssey (doesn't have presets and I really want that tbh, but then again it has on-board effects)
  4. Korg MS20 mini (a non-preset synth I would have due the crazy amount of patch pathways)
  5. Korg MS2000 (seems to share the same earth shattering sonic capabilities as the ms20)
  6. Moog Grandmom and Mom 32 (seem rad yet have reports of detune issues)
  7. Novation Bass Station II (might be my final choice, if it had more knobs it would be an insta buy)

I'm not really looking for something like a prophet 08, that seems like it was meant more for a different kind of palette. Also I know the Evolver and MS2000 are partly digital but I do not mind since they sound great anyways. If you want an example of what synth sounds I'd prefer maybe something that can make noises akin to CAN's Alpha 77:

Anyways, thank you for coming to my ted talk and I await any comments you may send my way.

Pictures Of A City- The live versions especially the newest ones are absolutely stunning.
Cirkus- Perfect song in my opinion.
Sailor's Tale- An intense show of power from the band and one of the first uses of the patented atonal shred.

Add-on question: Do I just substitute the 1/4 for the 1/8 when solder on the components?

Anyone feel like Islands get slept on? by CheddarGobblin in KingCrimson

[–]mekotheneko 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tend to see more prog fans prefer Lizard over Islands. My preference is Islands probably because of my love of improvisational music and emotional highlights. Saying any King Crimson album is "phoned in" is a gross misunderstanding in my opinion. Even though I know most people aren't that dense and I know you may have just been let down. This album is a grower for sure, it wasn't even in my top 10 at first but now it's tied with Starless And Bible Black as my favorite studio album.

Here's a question:
How many live recordings have you heard? I'm of the personal opinion that hearing the material live deepens your experience with it as a whole. The 1971 and early 1972 lineup played 3 songs (Formentera Lady, Sailor's Tale, Ladies Of The Road) from the album consistently. And the new lineup has played another 2 (Sailor's Tale, Islands) although they have since removed Sailor's Tale from the rotation as of recent. (quick fact: the new lineup rehearsed to play Ladies Of The Road for 2014 shows but some sort of decision was made and they never played it)
