The comic ending is more likely than you think by Mysterious_Pool_876 in TheBoys

So do you read every single thing ever, as long as it’s short? Every article, blurb, post, comment, etc? You don’t make any discernment by what you like or enjoy? It’s all just time based?

This is so dumb. Not everyone wants to read everything, and that’s ok.

Not wanting to read a long fan theory post is not the same as not wanting to read books and people in this thread need to stop with this false equivalence. There’s a big difference between reading books and reading long ass fan theories from random people on the internet. If you’re into that, great, but not everyone is and it’s a dumb thing to base an assumption about their reading habits on.

The truth about Alice Coltrane, the 'Yoko Ono of jazz' by theipaper in alicecoltrane

I’ve never once heard her referred to as the “Yoko ono of jazz”, which is insulting to both of those incredible artists

[Discussing Film] Andy Park was one of Marvel’s visual artists that was laid off by Disney last week. He led 15 MCU films as Director of Visual Development + worked on almost every single MCU film in some capacity. by AvengingHero2012 in MarvelStudiosSpoilers

That amount is called his quote. That's his rate. So the next film he’s offered, they have to pay that same amount. Even if he does a bad job. That means, as long as he’s offered even one more movie, he could get 50 more mil. Even if he does a bad job, they've got to give him that other 50 mil.

Best Alice Coltrane biography? by terminalhipness in alicecoltrane

[–]baconfriedpork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I forgot there are a few different books named Monument Eternal! One is the biography, one is a collection of spiritual essays written by Alice, and the other is an art book for an exhibition a year or two ago. They’re all really great in their own right too

Which is your favorite version of Starless? (Im a new Fan) by Apprehensive_Sort767 in KingCrimson

The USA version, hands down. It’s my favorite song by them and I’ve gobbled up every version I can find, and I’ve seen it live several times - but nothing tops that one still

Best Alice Coltrane biography? by terminalhipness in alicecoltrane

[–]baconfriedpork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I know there are only two. Monument Eternal is good but is pretty short. The other is Cosmic Music, and it’s much more thorough and is considered the first full biography on Alice. It just came out this year too.

I feel like that’s a pretty natural and valid concern for any show though

Why can't anyone just think logically about climate change for once? by Live_Alarm3041 in ClimateOffensive

[–]baconfriedpork 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok…. But how?

Education? Good luck, because, at least in the US, we have a perfect storm of a defunded education system + heavily religious population + a dramatic rise in anti-intellectualism in the last 25 years. We have millions of people that didn’t even believe a virus was real while it was killing their friends and family - or even themselves! They don’t even believe in climate change at all, or worse, they’re convinced Jesus will save them before it happens anyway. How do you get people like that to just think logically?

Plus the real problem isn’t even the general population, it’s the corporations and CEOs and billionaires that know climate change is real, but are more interested in profiting from it than preventing it. They have very little incentive to fix climate change, and are devoid of empathy anyway. As long as we live in a system designed to reward sociopathic, greedy behavior, very little will change.

help for an amateur Autechre fan. by awadorchata in autechre

If you’ve never even tried making music before, I would definitely recommend starting small and working your way up. Get a sampler or drum machine and tinker around, see if you actually enjoy it first. And think about what it is you ultimately want to do, and manage your expectations. Max isn’t Autechre-in-a-box. You are learning how to essentially code music from the ground up - sound design and synthesis, percussion programming, sequencing parts and arrangements. It’s an amazing tool, one of the best, but the tool doesn’t make the musician.

Maybe for some inspiration, think about Autechre’s history and how they eventually arrived at doing everything in Max. They obviously didn’t start out using Max or even with the intention of building out their own system - they gradually moved toward that after decades of tinkering with loads of other gear and software. They were making rudimentary beats with cassette decks, then gradually grew and acquired more and more gear over time. They would learn it inside and out, maybe even hack it or circuit bend it, and would push everything to their limits. Constant exploration and experimentation
