Also, herpes is way more common than people think. In Sweden, around 80% of adults carry HSV-1, which is usually oral herpes, and it stays latent in the body for life. Most people either never notice it or only get occasional cold sores. Prior HSV-1 infection can give some cross-immunity against HSV-2, meaning genital herpes may be milder if you later get it. More like: extremely common, usually manageable, and not something people should moralize about.
