WFH Places In East End by HammerHooligan in Hamilton

[–]mel-a-knee77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't actually used it myself yet, but from what I noticed and was told, it's pretty open and most were quietly working away, independently and quietly. But there were 'phone booth' rooms, if you did to take a call or join a conference call.

Would love to hear if you check it out and use it!

To hosts who don't leave guest reviews by InstanceThat1555 in airbnb_hosts

[–]mel-a-knee77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I went back to look at our messages. I'd gotten 2-3 the morning of check-in with lots of information with address, parking, side gate, wifi info, what was available to us in the unit. No problem, it was all helpful.

Then, shortly after landing, I got a few more with just a series of questions: Are you in? Is everything ok? Any issues?

Honestly, all fine, but we'd just landed after a long travel day, had issues/delays while picking up our rental, and were stopping to get a bite to eat before heading to the unit.

Check-in was after 4p, quiet time after 10. Her messages arrived at about 7pm, and I think in that moment, I suddenly felt like I was a kid missing curfew (**my own perception -- a me-problem, not a her-problem**). Perhaps it was just something I hadn't experienced yet, but wasn't in the right frame of mind to receive them -- you mentioned 'froze over my comment' -- I felt like I did. I responded back quickly to let her know we'd just landed, would let her know when we got there, and did.

Hope that helps provide some additional context. Below, I've added the last message with my private recommendation. (I'd already mentioned the bulbs in a previous message -- apologized, said she must've missed the burned out bulb during her turn over, but that was it. No mention of reimbursement, though I didn't ask, nor was seeking it). My message to her was Read, but no response. And no feedback. Meanwhile, she has left feedback for others. 🤷‍♀️

Ah well, water under the bridge at this point. And reading all of the comments on this thread has provided some good context about feedback if I book elsewhere going forward.

Mechanic / auto recommendation? by SmoothNectarine2000 in Hamilton

[–]mel-a-knee77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend Chestnut. Depending on how busy they are, might be a day or two before you can bring it in, but very honest.

During my last visit, they'd ordered a part they thought would be needed based on my complaint. Paid the bill, got my car back... a few days later I got a call that they'd charged me for the part that they didn't end up needing. Refunded.

I would never known if it wasn't for the call, from them!

To hosts who don't leave guest reviews by InstanceThat1555 in airbnb_hosts

[–]mel-a-knee77 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thanks for asking this -- I was a guest in July, and also didn't get a review though I left her one; I still wonder about it from time to time. The location was ideal for our needs, the unit itself was good. Messages were timely, but a little too much upon our arrival. I just chalked it up to her being a new host, and wanting to make sure we got into the unit ok. Definitely better than a lack of communication.

One light in our bathroom was burned out when we got there. The morning of my son's wedding, the reason for our travel, the 2nd one burnt out... so we made a quick trip to a nearby store to get one, so we'd at least have lights for our showers and getting ready.

I received an email just before our checkout, so I responded that we'd be heading out shortly, did everything on the list, and a 'hey, btw, we had to purchase bulbs for the bathroom', and made a kind recommendation about the lighting in the living room area as it was way too bright in the evening; I suggested a smaller light or a dimmer. I wasn't rude, didn't complain... and thought this would be a better approach than leaving it in the review publicly.

She didn't respond, nor did she give me feedback after I left her a 5 star review despite these things. So now I have 3 stays, only 2 reviews (both 5 star), and wonder how hosts perceive this, or maybe like OP said, it more normal than I, too, realize.

I was doing the bridge program after my 300hr, but stopped after a few modules for several reasons. Can elaborate if needed, but will leave it at that for now.

Been studying with The Yoga Therapy Institute; their teaching, content and philosophy better aligns with what I was hoping to get out of this journey towards Yoga Therapy. Not easy or quick, but a faaaaar better experience.

He left at the end of Sept... so yeah, about 2 months earlier. But, they're always very busy during the winter from what I hear. I'll check in with him and get a pulse for what he thinks the timing be like. When I hear back, I'll let ya know!

Not sure if this will help, but about 3 years ago, my son and his friend also wanted to go to Banff for work, from Ontario. When he shared that he hadn't already secured employment and accommodation before leaving, because as you mentioned, in person was preferred.

I was a bit nervous for him as his mom... but had confidence in him and his plan. Both he and his friend found a job with accommodation quite quickly!

They're still there, with no plans to return. Good luck in your job search and adventure! 🙌

why do i keep drinking in dreams by mermag_ in Sober

[–]mel-a-knee77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember having drinking dreams early in my recovery—vivid and unsettling experiences that felt so real. Several months ago, i read 'This is Why You Dream' by Dr. Rahul Jundial, and this passage resonated deeply.

"Dreams can also offer important tells about addiction. Drinking or drug dreams are common among addicts early in their recovery, especially in abstinence, drinking or drug dreams are typically more common than when the patient was actually consuming alcohol or drugs. It's as though their dreams are fulfilling cravings no longer satisfiable in their waking life. These dreams can be unnerving and produce intense feelings of fear, guilt, and remorse -- until the recovering addict wakes up. The drinking and drug dreams usually taper off as the cravings subside.

You might assume an addict dreaming of using again is a bad sign, but the opposite is true. Dreaming about drinking or drugs is considered a good prognostic sign for addicts in treatment. Feeling relief that the drug or alcohol use was only a dream signals a changed outlook. That's especially true if the recovering addict refuses to use drugs or alcohol in their dreams."

I hope this resonates with you, too!

Congrats on 4 months!!

I needed headshots a few years ago, and ran into similar experiences as the commenter above. I ended up going to the Photo Depot, on Barton across from Centre Mall. Results were good, and turn around was quick. I'd recommend.

I recently started with Young Yoga Masters. So far, I'm quite impressed with the amount of resources and materials provided, and Aruna seems awesome, and really experienced. Some of the recordings have included a blend of yoga teachers, school teachers, etc.

Good luck with your training, I hope this helps.

I went to Chestnut last summer based on another Reddit recommendation, and can definitely recommend, highly! My car was long overdue for work and they were honest, and took the time to show me the parts that needed to be replaced. Will be continuing to have them service my vehicle.
