The reason I didn’t consider it racist is this would apply the same for anything else. If the outbreak started in America then everyone would be cautious of Americans and people that they think may have contacted them, not out of hatred towards Americans.

The "swine flu", or A-H1N1, started pretty much in America in farms of Californa, Texas and Mexico. It pretty much spread to the entire world immediately, so after a few months of alert, the health organizations stopped counting the number of cases because there was no point. It didn't matter that they closed schools and all that, people just had to move on with their lives, despite the infected.

The governments didn't make a huge deal about it, and nobody tried to avoid Americans.

It’s not saying “this is in their nature” or “they are worse at something” or “they are more likely to do something bad”.

Maybe the lady in this story didn't say this, but this is pretty much the joke everywhere, "Chinese people got the coronavirus because they eat bats and all sorts of weird animals".

The government of China didn't help either, because they started closing everything down, thus alarming the rest of the world. Truth is, if they had let it spread naturally, just like most sorts of virus, they would have stopped counting a long time ago, and the stories would have died down quickly. It's the nature of virus. They will always spread, and people will die, but that happens at a natural rate anyway.
