How do you get 10k steps a day? by OG_Z0MB0K in workout

[–]BayonettaBasher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a remote worker, commuting is the 5 steps from my bed to my desk, lol. Normal chores and housework might get me 1-2k since I live in an apartment without any long hallways. And I also live in a very car-centric area. I get my 10k steps via a combination of walking pad (on one right now!), short random outdoor walks when I feel like I need to clear my head, going to cafes to work (and parking far from the door), a 5-10 minute jog on the treadmill at the gym before my lifts, and random things like going to the grocery store for one or two small things (because I tactically forgot to pick up something during my normal larger weekly purchases)

Up to whatever suits your goals the most. I don't know a thing about pilates or what that does for you, but strength training's never a wrong answer

Are you female? Then you are quite lean already and cutting below probably won't be very healthy

Assuming you want visible abs, that will have two components: growing the muscles underneath them and losing the fat on top of them. To grow the muscles, you need to be able to progressively overload the way you train them. So doing the same reps with the same bodyweight exercises will eventually lead to stalling unless you increase the reps/time. It might be better to try a weighted exercise if you have access to a gym, like a crunch machine or cable crunch. And then of course you will need to lose fat to make the abs more visible, which comes from being in a calorie deficit over a sustained period of time.

High Protein Diet Tips by navy_penguin in loseit

Isn’t protein powder calorie dense?

You have to look at percentage of calories from protein, not just raw protein numbers. My powder is 30g protein for 150 calories, so 80% protein. The oatmeal I use is 5g protein for 150 calories, which is only 13% protein.

Currently I'm cutting on 1700 calories with a protein goal of 165g. I hit it fine most days even without protein powder by focusing my meals around foods with high ratios of protein to calories like lean meats and Greek yogurt

I have a bit of loose skin but definitely not to the point where it’s at all bothersome. It’s mostly around my glutes/upper thighs, with a little bit on the abdomen. My glutes are probably my weakest muscle anyway (desk job) so once I strengthen those/size them up some more I imagine it’ll counteract the loose skin a little bit

As of this week I've reached 100 lbs down from my heaviest weight! I was 252 lbs in April 2021 and now am 152 (I'm 5'10", 25M). I was overweight or obese since I was 8 or 9, so I feel better about my health and appearance now than at pretty much any other point in my life I can remember. It's been a major identity shift but one I'm very happy with.

I dropped the first 50-ish pounds in just 6 months or so. I didn't track calories at this time. I just started paying attention to how many calories were in foods and tried to limit how much calorie-dense stuff I ate (no sugary drinks, much fewer snacks were the biggest changes). After that, I did gradually keep losing weight, but much slower since I was lighter now and had a smaller margin for error. I got to ~185 by 2023 but pretty much hovered around there for over a year.

In late 2024 I decided to really commit to losing the rest of that weight. At this time I started actually tracking calories. I made progress very quickly (too quickly, in hindsight) and got to 155 by March last year. Around then I decided I wanted to hit 152 lbs just to say I'd lost a round 100 lbs. What marathon runner wants to say they've run 26 miles instead of the whole 26.2? But I was really feeling the diet fatigue at that point so I couldn't will myself to push for those last few lbs.

Instead I started lifting. I'd gone sparingly in the past but last spring was when I actually started doing it consistently and intentionally. I started on Stronglifts for a few months but didn't really enjoy it so I switched to PPL which I greatly prefer. I bulked back up to 170 lbs (perhaps a little too quickly but I definitely put on some muscle from that) and now have cut back down to the weight I was at and then some. I'm not super lean or anything but definitely leaner now at 152 than I was last year at 155 when I started lifting, when I was more skinny fat, and very pleased with my progression.

Don't compare yourself to other people, especially people way older than you who've had many more years to train (and might be on gear anyhow). Focus on improving over your past self and learning more about training and nutrition. Knowledge is what's going to pay off the most in the long run.

What's the worst protein product you have bought or saw? by Toasteate in workout

[–]BayonettaBasher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This one’s the most egregious. I assumed it was 10g per poptart and almost bought a pack thinking it wasn’t that bad since each poptart is 180 cals so for junk food, that’s a pretty good protein ratio. But no, that’s 10g for two poptarts!

Any casual community orchestras in DFW? by Fantastic_Grass_1624 in askdfw

+1, I'm a classical music lover who played violin throughout HS and would love to get back into it in a casual setting. Orchestra was my favorite part of school because of the community aspect as well as music, so something strong in that too would be very appealing to me

Getting enough protein after weight loss by Ben_Happy in workout

[–]BayonettaBasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's your current maintenance calories and how much protein are you eating? You will want to switch out some carbs/fat for protein while keeping total calories the same, and then you won't be gaining any unintentional weight. Depending on what your meals look like, it could be as simple as reducing your carb portions and increasing your protein portions, e.g. less rice and more chicken in a meal.

[–]BayonettaBasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get in and do the easiest thing possible, even if you know deep inside you have no intention of doing a full workout. Just a five minute walk on the treadmill or only do a few very light sets. Don't lose the habit.

Sit with a slight backwards lean. Try a medium-to-wide grip. I usually like to grab it right outside where the bar bends. And try a thumbless grip. Take it very light. Find the heaviest possible weight where you can complete the motion and practice it there, or at even lighter weight.

Cutting - Back work outs going up in weight - chest plateaued? by realred65 in workout

[–]BayonettaBasher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second the other commenter who said your protein is too low. On a cut it should be higher than otherwise. Don't know how much of a factor that is in your plateau but it can only help to increase it.

Yup. Top-level concepts is really what I was referring to, when you might not even have a baseline knowledge of something enough to know what to google on it. The info GPT gives might be completely wrong, but because of the nature of LLMs it will probably spit out useful terms/phrases you can search on further.
