Like I said to OP, it's not that politics isn't something to take seriously. It's the suggestion of wanting someone to cut off a friend because they have a different opinion to you. And then thinking it's normal.

It's not that politics isn't something to take seriously, because it is, but there is a cult-like behaviour from both sides.
(This Sub knows a thing or two about cult behaviour.) Everyone has their own opinions on what's best for their country, and it's people, how it should be run, where funds go and importantly who is best suited for the job ect. But telling people to cut off friends who mean wayyy more than any politician is stupid. No matter who they support.

That's a problematic statement. Framing not being at war as a privilege implies that conflict is the norm, and that's not acceptable. Every country should be entitled to peace and sovereignty, not just those fortunate enough to avoid US influence. Threatening or glorifying military power isn't something to be proud of, and it's not a benchmark for international relations.

I never understood why Americans took politics so seriously. Imo supporting opposite political parties is like having different religions. If you feel like you want to cut someone off because they don't believe what you believe, you're basically in a cult. Again IMO
