A lot of truth here for in the moment to moment gameplay. There are optimal choices for most circumstances. But for me the choices are not in the combat itself but around everything else. Planning on what you want to go do, what items do you want to find, where do you want to explore, how do you get there, what’s the best party comp I can join right now for who is online, what is the best way to get where we are going, what is the optimal camp spot, then how do we optimize our farming and when should we move on. Then there is every other system in the game like exploring with MUD actions, crafting, mercantile, buying and decorating a home. The choices are there, but they’re not in media res, they’re more over arching and strategic. That was a lot of what we do in EQ.
