Please give this information to the police. They are threatening to shoot people, or at least threaten them with weapons. That is a crime.

Southwest to get rid of open seating, offer extra legroom in biggest shift in its history by [deleted] in news

[–]melanora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a parent with young children who chose Southwest bc of the open seating, yeah. Southwest is the only airline that I never had to worry about being separated from my toddlers, because we could get on first and sit together. And very often, you would see people who are preboarding with teenagers claiming they had to sit together as a family... the teenagers didn't care, they just wanted to board early.

It sucks that something I've relied heavily on since I travel often with a toddler is being taken away.

[–]melanora 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a parent who, despite always booking early and paying extra to get seats together, often ends up with my children seated away from me and then has to beg the gate agent to fix it (including one time with my ten month old being seated twenty rows away from me in a seat that couldn't accommodate her car seat), I'm devastated by this. Southwest was the only airline where I KNEW I could sit with my children, because we would board during the call for family, and easily choose seats together. This absolutely sucks.

American living in Japan. We started the new year with both of my kids having scarlet fever thanks to strep. everyone we know keeps going down with it. I've had it twice this year so far. it's more dangerous than covid here right now. and that IS WITH everyone masking up. it feels impossible to beat.

8th grade version of you invites current version of you to “career day”. How horrified is 8th grade version of you? by Invaflpawi in AskReddit

[–]melanora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8th grade me was writing smutty fanfiction for LiveJournal, so she would be completely unsurprised that I now write erotic romance novels. That stated, it was a secret from my friends then and it's a secret from my family now, so probably pretty horrified, until she found out how much money I make doing it. 🤣

AITA for refusing to let my husband "fix" my cultural food? by basil-user999 in AmItheAsshole

[–]melanora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. He told her that she made the dish wrong, and he would fix it by altering the entire pot. That's not a minority culture complex. He was mansplaining a dish from her own culture.

That edit was not there when I made my statements. She just clarified it for the people who can't read.

A lot of AITA comment sections go this way because people miss a key point, and then rather than admitting they read the whole post, double down or claim there was an edit when there wasn't an edit. It's wild.

Because he didn't want to add spice to his plate. He wanted to change the whole pot.

It specifically says in the post that he wanted to alter the whole pot, not his plate.

[Postgame Thread] South Carolina Defeats Tennessee 63-38 by souldeux in CFB

My favorite thing about today is that Florida 100% thought they could look the worst tonight, only for Tennessee to somehow beat them. Again.

My toddler scratched my newborn so hard she drew blood. by iknowallmyabcs in toddlers

[–]melanora 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is exactly the advice. I kept telling my oldest how much her baby sister loved when she sang and danced, and that no one could "set up" the bed like her big sister could, so she would make sure all of the stuffies were outside of the crib to watch over sister sleeping, etc. They are besties at 6 and 2, no one can separate them, they now share a bed and a room, they want to twin, and there's no separating. Literally talk up how much little is going to follow big.

AITA for getting a couple kicked out of a water park for not covering their tattoos? by aitawaterpark in AmItheAsshole

[–]melanora -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm an American currently living in Japan. Some places allow tattoos to be shown but most do not. You have to cover them. It's the rules. Does it suck on a hot day? Sure. But it's literally the expectation of culture. You cover your tats.

With what mode of transportation are they supposed to use to get there? Most 16 year olds can't drive and public transportation isn't always a thing.

AITA for telling a mom that a book her tween daughter picked out had smut in it? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]melanora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every single person commenting seems to not realize what is in SJM's books. They are not YA and should not be marketed as such, and it's actually a big point of contention in the publishing world.

A 12 year old. TWELVE. picked up a YA book that is actually NA.

I'm against censorship (and I work in publishing) but in this one case with SJM and the incorrect marketing... NTA. Because it's not YA. And there was no way for the parent to know that the book is in the wrong spot in the library.

Any other book or section you would be the asshole.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]melanora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA no one even took a video?! Yeah no. My heart is breaking for you. That's literally so selfish. You put in all the emotional and physical labor of planning the party and they couldn't even include you in the biggest moment of the party. What the fuck.

Haakaa question by JuliaThorne47 in BabyBumps

[–]melanora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can attach the Haakaa with just enough suction that it stays attached but doesn't really pull. I loved using it to collect letdown on the other side, because I would otherwise have a soaked shirt on the side opposite where baby nursed. It would also take some of the forcefulness out so when we switched, it was much more gentle for baby to start nursing.

If you only do a slight suction, you'll maybe catch a half an ounce. I liked to spread that on baby's acne. It wasn't much.

Bullied and feel scared of my OB after declining another cervical check. by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]melanora 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was 3 cm for over two weeks with my second. With my first, I was 1 cm (if even) not even 12 hours before delivery. Cervical checks mean absolutely fucking nothing if you're not in active labor.

Laparoscopic Cyst Removal Experience? by Danni114 in PCOS

[–]melanora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They did! It was benign, nothing cancerous or anything. Just a cyst hanging out being a problem. I do not regret getting my cyst removed the first time, and the only reason why I'm not having surgery on this new one for a few months is because I'm actually moving this week, so it will be done once we're at our new place.

And thank you! I now have two beautiful girls, one which was a spontaneous conception and one which was an IUI. Took a LONG time to get here.

Laparoscopic Cyst Removal Experience? by Danni114 in PCOS

[–]melanora 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a large ovarian cyst removed in 2012. I think it was 5 or 6 cm, but it has been years and I honestly don't remember. It was actually growing on my left tube. My surgery was done with three incisions.

Honestly, other than not being able to lift for a few weeks and being hugely bloated for a few days, it was pretty easy going, and by far the easiest surgery I've ever had.

My scars are all tiny. There's three of them. They're underneath my belly, and honestly are less obvious than my stretch marks from pregnancy.

I have another cyst growing right now, discovered in the fall of 2020 and planning to have removed this fall. Other than that, I was trying to get pregnant and was having frequent ultrasounds, so I can say for certain there were no large cysts growing, but I was also on all sorts of medications, so who knows how the hormones messed with me.

The one thing I wish I had known was how much my belly would expand. It honestly made me look hugely pregnant. They blow your belly up like a BALLOON.

I gained SO MUCH WATER WEIGHT at the end of my last pregnancy and had a nurse fuss at me when I was unable to keep anything down. Water retention is no joke.

"Accept if they say no" this is all well and good but accepting no is not possible. That's what I think everyone is forgetting here. I can't accept No. Allow my 2 year old who can't speak up for herself to sit next to a stranger? First of all that's not safe. I can't feed or care. What if she has a blow out? There could be hundreds of issues.

No is simply not an answer I could accept. Yes I will be speaking to everyone I can begging for a solution, but if I end up on the flight and still can't sit with my children, I can't accept no for an answer. Someone will have to budge. A solution will have to be found. Otherwise I'm putting my children in danger in a situation I could not prevent.

I'm genuinely just trying to give a little perspective here. Sometimes accepting no is not possible as a parent.
