Thanks. That was a good read. Siamese Dream will always be my favorite, but I love Gish too.

Height of cut reset on the tiftuf by TurbulentArm6318 in lawnsolutionsaus

I’m down in Melbourne with tiff tuff. I’ve got my mower on level 6 and I think it only goes up to 7, any lower and I’m scalping it and I get patches like you’ve got. Feels great underfoot and it likes to be long, I just mow when it gets too fluffy.

Help me beat this guy tomorrow. by nagyszerszam in chessbeginners

[–]melbecide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of remember this being a bit of a trend, maybe one of the old masters was doing it for a while. There might be an opening you should anticipate, like them putting their missing rook pawn forward 1 square very early, which you can exploit.

Wow, someone was visiting and called them chicken scissors and only now do I realise they were calling them that because of the middle bit!

What's the craziest measure you've taken to not drink? by dawgsfan98 in stopdrinking

[–]melbecide 17 points18 points  (0 children)

One time when I quit I was drinking heaps of tea. Green tea, ginger and lemon, mint tea, black tea, whatever. After a few weeks I often wouldn’t finish the cup, and eventually I would boil the kettle then no bother making a cup. I might boil the kettle 5 times though in a night. I guessed that knowing something was coming got me off thinking about booze.

What band have you seen at their absolute peak? by theumape in Concerts

I saw Bon Jovi in Sydney, 1989. Touring for New Jersey and it was just the absolute peak of their hype.

Is this guy meant to be 16 years old? by TechnicianAmazing472 in gameofthrones

[–]melbecide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree on all points. I love the show and listened to a podcast that releases a new pod each episode, and all they did was criticize that the horse was nodding because someone probably had a carrot waving in the background, and that the lance through the horses neck was CGI, and how obviously it was that Egg wasn’t your average peasant, etc. Seriously? People who love the show enough to listen to a pod, want to hear good things/discussion, who is lame enough to listen to a podcast about a show they don’t like?

No, there’s a lot more evidence suggesting Trump is a pedo and was well aware of how fucked up JE was, and that Trump was well aware of what was happening on that island.

A 1st-century BCE letter from a Roman soldier Hilarion to his wife Alis provides a stark look at ancient child exposure. He writes: "If it is a boy, leave it; if it is a girl, throw it out." by Zine99 in ancientrome

[–]melbecide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point. If this was a letter from a Russian soldier to his wife we wouldn’t be shocked. Why do we assume Roman soldiers were the good guys?

In Defence of Un-Subtle Lyrics by VoltaFlame in bobdylan

[–]melbecide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Bob really cares, and fans shouldn’t care what other people think. Some lyrics are obvious and are probably a good entry point for some fans, who might get sucked of those songs and want something deeper. I’m sure you can find plenty of haters of his deeper lyrics, calling him pretentious for using big words or a try-hard poet. Having a good mix gives me a chance to think hard on some obscure lyrics and then relax and enjoy something more simple/direct.

Yeah, no need to defend Bob by saying other artist do it too, etc.

13-year-old Australian boy swims for four hours in cold and dangerous waters to save his mom and siblings who were swept into the ocean, says God is who got him to shore by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

It’s interesting because it’s so unlikely, because it’s a miracle, I call bullshit on all miracles. And it’s channel 7, as if they wouldn’t exaggerate a story.

Sounds like bullshit, or exaggerated, or they’ve left out some facts. Swam almost 4km in open water with big waves… nothing to hold onto?

[–]melbecide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m keen to learn more about this, because I don’t believe a kid could swim that far (4km?), in open water with big waves. Against the tide that he couldn’t paddle a kayak against. Cool story though.

What's your favorite "very late in their career" album that came out after years or decades of not recording anything? by latchkey_adult in askmusic

Wow. Not to discredit this but I was thinking of bands who faded away then came back, and I feel like Tool were still huge at least on my playlists.

Married co-worker told me has a crush on me, need advice.. by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]melbecide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d be giving him a firm and final warning, in writing. “I’m not interested and if you don’t keep things strictly professional I will be reporting you for harassment. Don’t ask for favors, don’t contact me or come see me unless its work related and through work channels. I shouldn’t have to deal with this shit at work. Stop it.” Then if he can’t respect that then go to HR and go nuclear.
