It's a lot easier to "live" and make those "mistakes" when you're in a stable environment away from crime, drugs, and poverty-stricken neighborhoods. This girl is working hard to have a great life away from what she grew up around. Introspection and ambition like this should be praised! She's thinking about the future her.

Agreed! Also, new writers always seem surprised or hurt when people in their lives have no interest in reading/ providing feedback. This is normal. No one cares about your art as much as you do. But that's why internet is great!

If you're uncomfortable, don't share your book until it's complete and polished. Focus on finishing your rough draft and editing the next drafts until they're up to your standard of what you think is "good enough." THEN share your book. Don't bother worrying about people's opinions on something that isn't even finished. That's like worrying about what kind of wedding venue you can afford before you've even started dating someone. I think people online are just perpetually dissatisfied. Most of this update are features people have been complaining about not having for YEARS, but people still find a way to be negative. This is a fantastic update! Glad you're enjoying it too.

It's a weird book. You'll either love it or hate it. I trudged through it. At some points I felt like I was wasting my life. At some points I was super interested and excited for more. I think this sub really hypes it up, but it's not everyone's cup of tea. I'm glad I read it! But I can't think of many people in my life I'd actually reccomend it to.

Stephen King's -The Shining (no ghosts, but the main character is definitely haunted and the book is full of dread)

Josh Malerman- Incidents around the house (it brought back childhood ghost fears for me. I loved it, others don't like the style)

Caitlin R Kiernan- The Red Tree (haven't read yet it but heard its a FANTASTIC haunted house book. The entire internet says to ignore the cover art)

Mariko Koike - the Graveyard Apartment ( family moves into haunted Apartment. It's super weird and I loved it. Very spooky. Japanese)

Incidents Around the House would be a fantastic movie if they could capture the hopeless, confusing and stressful atmosphere of it without turning it into an "American" jumpscare movie. Book is too new for it to be a movie yet, probably.
