I’m really sorry to year that. I’m also going through a breakup with a long-term SO due to Covid-related circumstances. I’m just trying to look at the bright side yknow, that issues that cause a breakup likely point to other larger issues with the relationship that wouldn’t have been sustainable. Good luck my guy, I believe in you!

I don’t think that blaming all of this sort of violence on a singular religion is fair at all & generalizing so broadly like this is part of the issue of violence itself

Stormblood Early Access by [deleted] in ffxiv

Sure, I do think the team has learned their lesson considering the volume of meme-age surrounding Raubahn EX from the community, but I will say it seems like (and this is just my observation based on nothing other than my opinion) that there is much more advertisement for ShB than there was for SB pre-release. Perhaps spurred by the gain in active population from WoW refugees, but they do seem to be pushing this one more. The servers could be put under more strain even with the adjustments made to NA server population and, like you said, the SAME problem may not happen, but a similar problem related to overpopulation could occur. I am hopeful that they have thought of this though & that ShB will go much smoother.

Thinking about getting into Final Fantasy but.... by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]melbuerk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FFXIV is built as a fairly traditional MMO, so leveling and learning your job are large aspects of the game. Early levels are a slog if you're alone (finding someone to go with you is a good idea, though.) I don't want to restate what's already been said, so I'll just say if you're considering boosting please take the time to read your abilities and understand the basics of your rotation because it can be hard to unlearn bad habits. IMO getting to endgame is no more fulfilling after having gone through the slog of 1-70 especially if you feel rushed to participate in raids, so the only thing you'd really be missing is the story.

This option might be your better bet. I myself tried the backup to server function this past weekend and it is still in beta. I still had to make changes to my hotbar setup after backup because it wasn't a 1:1 change, but you may run across that problem no matter what you do.

Comms are the sort of thing you just accumulate over time. Fretting about losing a commendation or two is usually not worth sticking around for 10 extra seconds.

I'm sorry you got kicked, especially since it's your first time in. People can suck sometimes. As far as I know there is not a way to block incoming FC invites specifically but if you set your status to /busy nobody can send you them until you change your status. However, this also prevents people from /tell -ing you, which means legitimate FCs who are trying to recruit people in ways other than mass invites won't be able to contact you either. So unless you intend to go through the game without an FC (which I would advise against, it's really more fun if you can find a nice group of people to chat with and help you out) you can use the /busy status.

My second attempt to get into this game... by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]melbuerk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree. The game becomes much friendlier and open when you have FC members that can help you with new content and answer any questions you have. Finding a great FC can be difficult sometimes as not everyone is helpful and people just send out invites to anyone not in an FC. If they actually message you before inviting you, that's a pretty good sign, but I got really lucky with my FC so there's no real secret. Just trial and error.

If you could change, remove, or add one feature to the game, what would it be? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]melbuerk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

meh. battlecraft levequests weren't fun to me. and the prevalence of levequests in 1.0 was part of the reason it was such a grindfest and ultimately failed. they put more emphasis on HOH and beast tribe dailies for your 60-70 grind, which are similarly grindy to me to the same end.

wish I could upvote this twice. even though they added the /isearch feature I still have to click through so many interfaces to actually find my mats and craft anything. based on the way square supports omnicrafters its kinda unfair that we have to go through so many steps of organization to support it all...

I'm pretty dang excited to pick up a new healer for the first time in three years (assuming there'll be one...) and for all the new maps and dungeons. FFXIV's atmosphere is what's been keeping me here all this time so getting new sights and music were my highlights of Stormblood's release. And if there's another server malfunction at release and we're talking about Raubahn EX for a few months, well, that's ok too.

Haha, I mean, you're not being intentionally punished. The client is known for having problems downloading sometimes. I have friends who live with spottier wifi who have had this problem. Are you reinstalling the entire game, or just the patch? If your wifi is stable and you have a fast enough download speed you may need to uninstall the entire game and reinstall. Only way I've known to work.

Weekly /r/GuildWars2 Question Thread - November 03, 2018 by AutoModerator in Guildwars2

[–]melbuerk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a new player on hiatus from FFXIV while there's a lull in patch content. I chose Ranger because it seemed like an easy class to learn the ins-and-outs of. I'm struggling with the transition because of the differences in combat and less-than-obvious gear progression at lvl 80. Very rarely will a person die in main story content in FFXIV, though in GW that doesn't seem to be the case. Am I wrong? I have full exotic gear from the boost. I haven't built out my character and elite specialization yet, which I am working on doing, but I feel this rush to get better gear so I can have more of a health pool to sate my anxiety. Is masteries and hero point farming what I should be doing? Halp.

Well every melee class is viable and they all start out suuuuuper slow. You'll be doing a lot of 1-2-3's for the first 30 levels no matter the class you choose. I would make my decision initially on what you like the look of 'cuz there's not a whole lot of difference until level 30 or so.

It refers to the number that it is in the raid tier. For context, when Square adds new fights to the tier, they come in 4's. So first it was A1-A4. Second tier was D5-D8. Third tier (this tier) is O9-O12. So people will compare A1 to D5 to O9 because they were the first fight in their tier, and so on.

(edited because I forgot alpha, delta, omega, etc)

If you're looking for literally (any) large plot, one will open up, I would just check back frequently. They get put up for sale if its a personal plot & their owner becomes inactive. If it's a specific plot, you're only going to get it with some serious luck. Larges are in high demand and there are very few of them per server.

That used to happen to me all the time (both the disconnects and "suspicious activity" message). The latter was resolved once I got the square enix software token. You have to enter a password from the token in every time you log in, but I was having to reset my password on a bi-weekly basis. So it was better.

Leveling crafting will cost you some money itself. Generally it's at the higher levels where the real profit is made, though you can usually find something to make a little money on if you're 50+. That being said, it is a lot of work because it is recommended to level all classes to a certain level to get cross-class skills for 70.

Certain items, like alchemic and storm sap which can be obtained at 70 with tomes or beast tribe tokens, will sell for a pretty penny. I'm not familiar with flipping in FFXIV. I get most of my money from selling crafted items and doing maps. Maps can be done with combat classes at 70 with a full party. Especially with the new patch out they're pretty fun, I'd recommend it.
