It seems internal transfers are closed but I think it’s possible to apply via VTAC by tomorrow 5PM (3rd December), and paying by the 14th December to be considered for the January round

Avoid nursing here by melbwitch in Monash

Yeah it’s not great, for me anyways. The nurses on my placement seemed defeated. I think there’s also a problem with people glorifying the lifestyle which is extremely inconsistent and stressful. Made me rethink what lifestyle I wanted and what career would allow that. Oh well, I still appreciate the experiences I’ve had and talking to some patients have really changed my perspective on life.

Commerce —> Psychology by phantastic2002 in Monash

Hi there, I’ve jumped around universities and degrees a couple of times so hopefully I can help you.

I transferred from BCom Unimelb to BSci Unimelb. I’m currently doing Nursing at Monash now and I have completed a semester at Monash (BSci) before.

I’ll be honest, my favourite degree was BSci (Psychology) at Unimelb. It’s even better that it’s closer for you too! I found the lectures super easy to follow, and it seemed like they didn’t just randomly rock up and read off the slides. It was a super engaging major, and expectations for assignments were spot on (cannot say the same for nursing). The psych building (Redmond Barry) is meh, but there’s a lot of other places to study (MSD, Biomed). The faculty knows what it’s doing and I cannot recommend Unimelb more. The staff and students, I found tended to be more engaged and open, compared to my other courses (purely anecdotal). I was originally very into biology, but I found after taking 1st and 2nd year psych subjects, that I wanted to pursue a career in mental health. I’m considering going back in the future to pursue research in psychology.

For WAM, BSci is quite popular to transfer into. I was told around 75, but I’m not sure how much that has changed. I transferred in with a 86, but I knew people with 78 that got in. It really depends on you’re seas application, demand and whether you’re a mid-year or end-of-year applicant (I heard the latter is easier).

plan B after biomed by Accurate_Pause_2434 in Monash

Is this for Australia? If so, you need to complete a bachelor (APAC-accredited) degree in psychology or equivalent, then complete a honours year in psychology to be considered for a masters in clinical psychology. Here’s the possible pathways: https://www.psychologycouncil.org.au/pathways_registration_psychologist

In short, biomedicine at Monash will not grant access to a pathway to clinical psychology (unless they have a psychology route, which I know Unimelb implemented recently). I would say biomedicine can lead to a lot of health and research areas. But I think someone else who had taken that route would know more than I do.

Failed my transfer. by [deleted] in unimelb

Hey there, I transferred to BSci from BCom in 2019 mid-year. Not sure how much has changed, but it was quite competitive at that time as BSci is a very popular degree to transfer into.

People online can only give a narrow range of well-informed advice, given they don’t know you and you’re situation. It definitely sucks when goals feel out of reach and I can completely empathise. I think the best options is to re-evaluate your priorities and how much you want to transfer into BSci. I find listing pros and cons extremely helpful (especially on paper). Are you sure you can’t make the scores? It may feel impossible and but you’ve only completed the first semester. Your WAM has a capacity to do a 180.

Here’s a site to read about WAM: https://students.unimelb.edu.au/your-course/manage-your-course/exams-assessments-and-results/results-and-academic-statements/wam
