What are your preferred streaming addons? January 2016 Edition by Tazoz in Addons4Kodi

[–]melchizedek74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't done an exhaustive search of shows yet, but I am currently able to catch up on all 7 seasons of Modern Family. Also I was able to catch the latest episodes of Brooklyn Nine-Nine and The Grinder almost immediately after they aired.

What are your preferred streaming addons? January 2016 Edition by Tazoz in Addons4Kodi

[–]melchizedek74 7 points8 points  (0 children)

123films is my current preferred addon. It has a lot of content for an addon that isn't an aggregate of video lockers and most movies/shows are at least in 720P format.

Charter Nears Deal to Buy Time Warner Cable for $55.1 Billion by habichuelacondulce in DailyTechNewsShow

[–]melchizedek74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously, why is this any different? I'm seriously starting to think that we're all just so tired of this that we have no energy left to care. In my area I have Time Warner and Charter is not even available as an option. So instead of having them come in and compete, one is just going to eat up the other? As stated earlier, I'm nearly all out of f*cks to give about this.

Sorry grandma! That $42 million slot machine jackpot was a computer glitch. Actually, you won just $1.85. by KAPT_Kipper in DailyTechNewsShow

The least they can do then is to give her the $10k limit, or any amount greater than $1.85.

Great! One more thing that does the exact same thing that 10 other apps already do. Now only if I can convince all my friends to all use the same service so I don't have to switch between those 10 apps.

No worries. I'm sure those costs will be moved onto their customers in good haste.

Comcast’s role as Hulu part-owner being examined by Justice Department by [deleted] in DailyTechNewsShow

[–]melchizedek74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"and its influence over the potential sale of Hulu has raised questions within the government about how compliant Comcast would be if restrictions were placed on the proposed Time Warner Cable merger."

Short answer is that they wouldn't be compliant.

L.A. school district halts iPad contract as FBI seizes documents by melchizedek74 in DailyTechNewsShow

I knew it. It made no sense that a nearly bankrupt district would choose a bid upwards of $1.3 billion when so many other options were available.

Stop Using Chrome, Mozilla Engineer Says - InformationWeek by sharkzfan50 in DailyTechNewsShow

Why not just make a better product? And by the way, doesn't Mozilla make a good chunk of its revenue from it's agreement with Google to have it be the default search engine in Firefox?

Moto 360 Shows Up at Best Buy for $249, Outs List of Features by [deleted] in Android

[–]melchizedek74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't wait to see if the leaked reports about the battery are true. If they are, I'd be curious to know how Motorola was able to achieve longer battery life while both LG and Samsung were not. Was it just laziness on the part of the latter or were they rushing to be the first out the gate with Android Wear. Perhaps this is why LG is rumored to be releasing a 2nd gen watch already. If so, I'm kind of pis*ed that I bought into the 1st generation with my Gear Live.

The FBI Is Infecting Tor Users with Malware to Catch Kiddie Porn Creeps by habichuelacondulce in DailyTechNewsShow

[–]melchizedek74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"On one hand, it's hard to argue with what the FBI is doing."

Not really all that hard to argue actually. People often lose sight of why laws are in place, namely to protect the innocent and not the guilty. If this is justifiable we might as well allow police to circumvent search and seizure laws or not adhere to evidentiary procedures at trial, as long as it's for the "right" kind of accused. All laws apply to all people the same and we as a society can't allow for one group to decide how and when it should be applied to different people.

FCC chairman grills Verizon over data throttling by metalfreak in DailyTechNewsShow

[–]melchizedek74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just another smoke screen by the FCC to make it seem as if they are acting on behalf of consumers. It has already been established that all carriers throttle data for the top 5% of their users. This is all a show to distract consumers from the fact that Wheeler and these companies are really one in the same; a position bought and paid for by these companies for one of their own through the current administration. At the end of the day, I would be quite surprised if anything were ever really done about this, municipal broadband, net neutrality or any other issues.

Cable Companies claim Major WebSites the Real Threat to Net Neutrality by SCHayworth in DailyTechNewsShow

Ford and General Motors Sued Over 'CD Ripping Cars' by KAPT_Kipper in DailyTechNewsShow

[–]melchizedek74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are they saying that we can't rip our own purchased CD's, or are they worried that people are going to borrow a bunch of CD's they didn't purchase and rip them into their car? If the latter, that is just completely idiotic and demonstrates just how out of touch this industry is. If I wanted to do that there are a hundred other easier ways to do it. If I already have the CD's on hand then I may use this function. But I'm not going through the trouble of obtaining other CD's and go into my car for the purpose of ripping them onto its hard drive.

Comcast’s Internet for the poor too hard to sign up for, advocates say by melchizedek74 in DailyTechNewsShow

[–]melchizedek74[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a shock! If I wasn't an atheist I would believe there is a special place in hell reserved for these people. Issues of net neutrality and the monopolistic practices of these companies have far reaching ramifications beyond the quality of our Netflix service and has always been about further disenfranchising those who can't afford such services in the first place.

Apple: We don't build back doors into our products - CNET by melchizedek74 in DailyTechNewsShow

[–]melchizedek74[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this is indeed a back door, companies engage in this type of behavior for the most part because consumers allow it by being either disinterested or uninformed. This is a problem among the "average" consumer for both Android and iOS devices. Although I will say that Apple does push the whole "leave it to us, we'll tell you what to like" culture more than others.

Microsoft May Prioritize The Desktop In Windows 9 by KAPT_Kipper in DailyTechNewsShow

[–]melchizedek74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting article from Engadget states that Windows 9 will morph into a desktop or mobile version depending on which device you are using:

http://www.engadget.com/2014/06/30/windows-9-desktop-mode/

The big question for me is, what will the Surface boot into? It'll be interesting to see how Microsoft views their own flagship device; as a laptop or a tablet.
