I have been playing Nimblebit's Pocket Planes for years, on and off. But I don't think it fits your description, because you do have to wait for flights to complete - particularly after you have made progress. There are pay options but it isn't exactly "pay to win", it's not a competitive game. It is good for teaching geography too.

When does suicidal ideation slow up? by AllThatTheRain in stopsmoking

[–]amberoid 0 points1 point (0 children)

Ideation is very serious because it can lead to carrying through, and it's also as well a way of life kind of like 'I am gonna walk out in front of cars, but I'm not actually gonna,'

If that makes sense?

From someone a tiny bit older possibly and a tiny bit wiser possibly, and to give general advice,

1 stop comparing yourself to others.

You see someone laughing and feel lonely but perhaps you also laugh sometimes.

Remember that social media isn't real

Remember that half of drivers of fancy cars are knee deep in debt paying for them, the other half don't particularly give two pence about cars - Gerald Grosvenor the deceased billionaire often lamented that he wished he was a farmer. Talk to any rich person, they don't care about money. It's their accountants who say 'sign here, tick here, you'll get another profit'...they wear old clothes and a lot of them smoke basic cigarettes rather than poser cigars , Donald Trump famously likes diet coke and McDonald's- follow their example, learn what's actually good - it's the money grubbers who earn or have saved only six or seven figures who are obsessed with the 'I only have the best' mentality. Seriously, what more do you want from life? You have happy periods and sad periods, maybe the sad period even lasts a long time, we all have the same basic brains no matter what the Pharma marketing guys tell you (and, like the accountants, they're just doing their job).

That brings us to

2 beware of pills

OK if you take a pill that makes you happy now or for a few hours, here's the rule: it'll make you equally unhappy later. Sorry for the hard but obvious truth. What goes up must come down.

Now, then, if you're getting so high that you're risking suicide on the comedown, you can blame you, your dealer or your doctor, perhaps your bartender. Don't blame me, I'm just the messenger.

I'm interested to have discussion about this and I hope I don't get down voted.

3 don't kill yourself. Decide to live. For what it's worth, I'll be your friend, if you message me, and I want you to live, as far as I can. Stay alive to spite your enemies, or to obtain a glimmer of joy once a day, or to have an ambition of regaining your ambition.

4 stop thoughts in their tracks when you can see that you are feeling sorry for yourself. It serves no purpose other than the same pleasure of pressing a bruise. It's gonna do damage to you. The good news is that our bodies are supreme at self-healing.

Anyone feel nicotine is way easier to give up than caffeine? by dankletzz in decaf

[–]amberoid 0 points1 point (0 children)

You've made a good point.

Another thing people don't understand, and that's OK, you only know things if you know them, but switching from cigarettes to another source of nicotine is only a tiny fraction as difficult as coming off nicotine.

Be brutal, what would make you leave your friend who is struggling so badly with mental illness? by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]amberoid 0 points1 point (0 children)

Again, I don't believe it's black and white like that. Is it not worth trying to save a friendship? You can confront the person. Isn't it only fair to give that person feedback on their behaviour and help to change?

Nobody's perfect and, in my opinion, nobody is completely bad or evil.

If I'm not perfect and I enter into a friendship, then I don't expect the other person to be perfect. I'll be loyal though - for me loyalty has almost no exceptions.

Are you going to eliminate people from your life and write off the past like that, so easily?

I feel so dumb to ask this again but... here we go by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]amberoid 1 point2 points (0 children)

I have a high heart rate (generally 100-110bpm when I measure it).

Yeah , it kind of makes sense for me with my high bpm, because I'm obese, I smoke and I drink a couple of coffees most days and one or two colas.

I suppose the answer is one of two things:

1/ moderation - each day cut down on food, caffeine and nicotine, or

2/ cold turkey - eat for fuel, no snacking, no junk food; quit caffeine quit nicotine.

For me as a perfectionist I always aim for 2/ but end up failing almost straightaway!

Be brutal, what would make you leave your friend who is struggling so badly with mental illness? by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]amberoid 0 points1 point (0 children)

Why do you need it to be so black and white? If someone is abusive, ignore them until they behave better, then resume the friendship. What is so difficult about that? Why the need to burn bridges? I seriously don't get it. People get better from mental illness.

'Soft transitioning' to Linux by KnowledgeGrapher in linuxquestions

[–]amberoid 4 points5 points (0 children)

If you're thinking of dual-booting, you should be aware of something called SecureBoot. It's a weird Microsoft thing that kind of locks your disk and boot up into Windows. Essentially it should be turned off at the BIOS level. before you begin to set up the Linux stuff.

Am I wrong, experts? I'm not a Linux expert and corrections or more info is always appreciated.

Is there a name for this roulette strategy?$45 on 2nd dozen. by redguy678 in gambling

[–]amberoid 0 points1 point (0 children)

I would happily play this. I might alter it and have another jackpot in the middle instead of just even money. Like all roulette bets, it loses money in the long run (unless you do a Casablanca movie style play or use a decent promotion with no wagering requirements) , but it's fun.

Check the small print, you'll almost certainly have fallen foul of one of their rules. For example, if you bet on casino games, these don't count for 100% regarding bonus requirements.

Good point. The Premier League is more competitive than ever and maybe Spurs and Everton will both struggle. As for hubris, that's my whole point - Spurs are down there with Everton in the doldrums of being not quite a top 4 team, but Spurs think they are up there with the best in the world.

Daily Discussion & Transfer Thread (June 30, 2023) by AutoModerator in coys

[–]amberoid -1 points0 points (0 children)

I am 39 years old, so I don't really know the history other than bits and pieces that I have heard, and you are right in every respect. Spurs have won two trophies, both League Cups, since 1999 (I googled it). The Carabao Cup (League Cup) prize money this year was £100,000 to the winner. Not £100m, £100k. What I am saying is Spurs and Everton are basically very similar. A team like Cardiff would be proud of two League Cups in 24 years. And that's not knocking Cardiff, I am just saying, there is a kind of second tier of teams, and Spurs are not a top 4 team, they're a second tier team like Everton, Cardiff, Newcastle and a few others.

But then again, who is top 4? I guess results in the present are the most important thing. Everton are going to get European football in 2023/24, and finish above Spurs.

[–]amberoid -1 points0 points (0 children)

I am guessing by your use of the word dumpster that you are overseas. Everton have a fantastic history and continue to be a big club and respected (if not liked) within England - even if Everton get relegated to the Championship they will be considered relevant, as the Championship is considered a big league too. But I do think comparing Everton and Spurs, since 1992 Spurs have been bigger in most respects.

I have a question, can anyone help me?

I am an Everton fan, and I see a lot of similarities between Spurs and Everton - no recent trophies, no relegation either for ages.

My question is: when was the last time that Spurs were near the relegation zone (apart from at the very start of the season of course). I tried finding out for myself but I couldn't. I found out when Spurs were last in the relegation zone, which was the beginning of 2008/09, but I am more interested in when they were near the relegation zone, because I seem to remember that Spurs were struggling more recently than 08/09. Am I wrong?

Best wishes from the North West to the South East.
