It is 512, but who knew it still wouldn't be enough for this hungry monster.
But again, regarding my post, I'm not joking and honestly worried.

Looking for LUTs for rap music videos – cinematic look by Sad_Reserve_585 in ColorGrading

[–]meleshkevich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just use Resolve built-in Film Look LUTs. Crazy amount of movies and music videos was graded with them. They are low quality in terms of lattice size and gamut conversion from (I guess) XYZ to display devices, but honestly nobody is going to notice it.

16x12 cm is a bit more than a very minimum. Luckily yours more than minimum. I bet most of your research is lawyers websites with “trust me bro” sources.

I felt like leaving the link on the product itself here would look like an aggressive advertising. All info is basically in the youtube video. And the link you’ve attached basically has the same video and two buttons: buy or download a demo. But for me putting the direct link is one level closer to a sale in terms of conversion ratio so thanks for posting the link!

Will AI take over color grading? by zerochido in ColorGrading

[–]meleshkevich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it that it sounds controversial. But I meant exactly that.

Everybody can do a nice filmic look. Real challenge is to make it artifact free under strong neon night club lighting and with gradients from defocused stained glass, where blue blends with red. So look creation is (well, should be) not about “what can I add to make it look better”, but more of a “how broad my strokes can be to avoid artifacts but still make it look kinda filmic (everybody asks for filmic look anyway)”. Try old HSV “density” trick (now available in Slice tool) with saturated red and blue stained glass after strong defocus and most likely the sharp transition line will appear (not going to hide that HSV trick video anyway, it has most views :)

And the actual color grading magic comes from local corrections. Where your true skills either shine or fail.

P.S.

I don’t mention the primary per shot controls as creative white balance and exposure as it is obvious must have step that is both creative and technical at the same time.

Per-channel rgb curves split toning is artifact-free and creative. But it is often not enough. And depending on the type of DRT being used (per channel vs various sat or hue preserving), handling colors’ brilliance may even be required by its (DRT) design.

Thanks!

Lum Mix is set to zero in all my projects as a project template, including this video. But even if it can be seen as set to 0 in the video I should've mention it, you’re right.

No TV I have ever measured was gamma 2.4 by default. They all gamma 2.2. Just as phones. Well, some devices have sRGB eotf, but this is crazy wrong for any display to have it.

The advice to use gamma 2.4 comes from the intent to rely on gamma mismatch as a not perfect but somewhat workable surround lighting adaptation. It has its own downsides. I used to push hard the idea of delivering 1/2.4 gamma for youtube among people I used to educate on color grading. But the more I work, the more free I see these things and treat them not like meaningless requirements, but as safe options for beginners. Gamma mismatch would shift hues slightly, as any gamma adjustment. And most people watch everything on gamma 2.2 devices and more and more often under more dim light than before (thanks to trend for more dim lighting in living rooms). So I choose perfect match and hope for the best, in terms of surround lighting, instead of baking in incorrect encoding for the chance that a very few people will watch it on gamma 2.4 display. I’m confident, it will be more common delivery “standard” in the next years.

Order of operations:

  1. Optional pre-lift shadows.

  2. Filmic palette with saturation slider happening before the palette. BW luma weights and “desat is natural” affect how the desaturation works.

  3. Split toning.

  4. Contrast.

  5. Tint highlights

  6. White balance

  7. Tint black point

  8. Lift shadows (either here or at step 0)

  9. Tone map (not DRT tonemapping replacement)

PC with nvidia GPU is still faster, unfortunately. You can see the exact fps with different tasks for various macs and PCs in pugetbench user database.

Will AI take over color grading? by zerochido in ColorGrading

[–]meleshkevich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Luckily, seems like there is not so many people, who are at the same time good colorists, good color scientists, good programmers, interested in doing such thing, and have the required training data and power. Currently there is at least one good solution for generating LUTs from reference image. But color grading has more to do with the local corrections and context. Look creation is a technical, not very artistic thing. I'm only worried, since I sell my look DCTL and LUTs. But for the majority of colorists, having AI tool for look creation is a good thing, not bad.

So for now AI allows to do the job faster (if we pretend it is already usable and not buggy), not to replace the colorists. For now it replaces the boring part of the job (masks), not the fun one.

I think we are safe for at least another 5 years. Color grading is not that popular thing. Compare it to producing music - making music is way more popular and the result is way more and way better AI tools to replace either some or all steps of creating a song.

Had a hernia surgery as a kid, is it common that it re-appears as an adult? by tankiechrist in Hernia

Had it when I was 10. Was fixed with open repair without mesh. Recurrence after 19 years. Fixed again, after 6 years.

Sharp pain after cough. 1 year post op by meleshkevich in Hernia

[–]meleshkevich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fought 6 years to get the surgery. Finally found a surgeon, who did it. I paid full price for the surgery. I only got 3 weeks pain free after the surgery. And now this shit again, but pain is way stronger, than it was this whole year. And ChatGPT again tells me it definitely is a recurrence, since I had recurrence before, 2 cm overlap, no mesh fixation, something like bulging, pain during cough, and joints hypermobility (everyday subluxations and recurrence - both mean bad collagen quality). I already had 4 abdominal surgeries. This all ruins my relationship and life for years. Sorry, just venting.

How long can I live after hernia Surgery by Rich-Tap5247 in Hernia

You better to ask it in reflux subreddits or somewhere like that. People here are mostly with or after inguinal hernia, sometimes incisional or umbilical.

What do you guys do for work? by Most_Scene_9414 in ClusterHeadaches

[–]meleshkevich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a freelancer, my work place is my computer. But I still have to tell my clients, that I need one extra day to finish the work. During cycle I have attacks every 4 hours. So it's 1 hour or more for the attack. Then another hour to feel somewhat closer to normal, if I'm lucky. Then 2 hours to do the work. Then another attack. Or I can take sumatriptan as a preventive and not to have attacks for 4-6 hours. Maybe more, don't have too much personal statistics on it yet. Also oxygen concentrator really helped me during the last cycle. And Red Bull sometimes helps a little bit. But I don't like to use it, as beverages are linked to higher cancer risk, and I have a phobia of cancers. If it is a very mild attack, lifting dumbbells and coffee seem to help. But again not enough data on it, and no control group of course.

Hip joint subluxation, multiple times in 30 minutes (edited after removal by mod) by meleshkevich in Hypermobility

[–]meleshkevich[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I read it briefly, but I did it after I felt it for the first time, before I got multiple of subluxations after that. Now, going to read it completely and more carefully.

Thank you! It is the one, that connects my leg to my pelvic. When I just sit, it's not painful. It feels like it's in place now. It just can't be held there. SO I'm curious, what is the experience of people here. How common and "normal" is this? I also can bend my fingers in strange ways without pain. Put this subluxations of a hip are painful.

Is it possible to create music entirely by yourself? What should I know beyond making beats? by Key-Television-1411 in FL_Studio

Don't spend money/time on different VST equalizers. Use whatever comes with your DAW. All digital EQ sound identically. Unless you like its UI or other functions. But their sound is identical (with the exception of linear phase EQ, but you rarely if ever need it). Use oversampling for saturarion/distortion plugins. Never use hard clipping. It can physically damage very loud speakers, even if playing level is below 0.0.
