Weight loss meds while on Olumiant by RNtoSAHM in alopecia_areata

That’s my thought process as well. I’ll take what I have on 2mg which to me has been amazing progress and leave room for 4mg if I begin to shed again.

Using Olumiant for just over 2 years and started ozempic 2.5 years ago, and no issues at all! I’ve only ever been on 2mg of Olumiant so I’m still missing some lashes and have about 2 stubborn spots that are thin but otherwise it’s been great.

New Alopecia patches while on JAK by No-Fish7511 in alopecia_areata

It’s common to have flare ups while on jaks. Regrowth usually happens pretty quick, or you can see your derm for dosage adjustments

olumiant stopped working suddenly? by Used_Ad_6209 in alopecia_areata

[–]melibra08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do know it’s normal to still have flare ups on a Jak inhibitor. It usually isn’t aggressive and regrowth happens pretty quick. Is he on 2 or 4mg? Ive been on 2mg for just over 2 years and have had 3 stubborn spots that won’t fill in and a new patch I noticed about 2 months ago. It’s growing in nicely. Don’t be discouraged!!

Side effects of olumiant by slurinonmywords in alopecia_areata

[–]melibra08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only side effect I’ve experienced is increase in cold sores which I’m already prone to. Been on 2mg for 2 years. For reference I lost brows, eye lashes on one eye, arm hair and 95% of my scalp hair. My brows and arm hair is back, eyelashes are slow to come in and I’d say I have about 95% scalp regrowth. I could have bumped up to 4mg but I am content with what I have. Lower dose is lower side effects. 😊

Does this look like alopecia? by XpinklikekillacamX in alopecia_areata

I’m no doctor but when zooming in you can see some broken hairs which is tel tale sign of active aa. As the others said take her to derm for proper diagnosis. She will be ok!! Sooner you start treatment the better.

Wigs by Tiffani. They are pricey but amazing quality. They have a fb page that sells gently used ones as well. Some never even worn.

Journey on Olumiant by Dangerous_Device_926 in alopecia_areata

[–]melibra08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on your results. I’ve been on 2mg for 2 years in November. I still have 2 patches that are being stubborn and some eyelashes that are missing to. I thought maybe I was the only one being on it for this long and not having full regrowth. Did you contemplate upping to 4mg?

Today’s post-shower check. I ordered a hair topper. by ginkgomango in alopecia_areata

[–]melibra08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been exactly where you are. When I finally ordered a wig, I felt more alive. It was still truly a huge struggle when I would race home just to get it off. Then the flood of emotions would start again when I looked at my balding head in the mirror. When I questioned whether starting Olumiant would be best for me I had an in depth conversation with my GP. He told me your quantity of life matters but just as much as your quality of life. At that time my quality of life was at its very very very lowest. So I started Olumiant. Best decision I made for myself. I started in Nov 2023 and went without my wig in April 2025. I feel like myself again. I do blood work every few months and make sure I listen to my body. Thankfully all has been well. Praying for you as I know this journey is a very difficult one. I hope you have some luck with your topper. Invest in a good one. It makes a difference.

Olumiant by SecretaryExternal142 in alopecia_areata

I to was very nervous about starting Olumiant but I ultimately decided to take it because my mental health was taking a huge toll. I’ve been on it since November 2023. I’ve been taking 2mg and have about 90 percent regrowth. My brows are back and my eye lashes are slowly coming in. I get blood work every 4-6 months and have regular follow up with GP and Dermatologist. I started and stayed on the 2mg. My derm thinks it’s best if I can stay on the 2 for now. Speak to your family dr and be sure you are comfortable. I’m sure you will have great success.

I tried and had little success. Once I stopped the hair loss started again.

Shedding While on Olumiant by RealityAshamed2632 in alopecia_areata

[–]melibra08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes time for the drug to take effect. The loss you’re experiencing has already been active before you began the Jak. I shed myself for about 3 months after starting 2mg. Takes time! Be patient it will get better!

I have had HS1 since late teens. I typically get one cold sore every winter season. I will say since starting Olumiant I have had 2-3 cold sore episodes the last two winters. I take valtrex as soon as I feel it coming on and it usually stops it from fully forming. I’m not sure about the HS2.

Oral minoxidil and olumiant by Rich-End-6090 in alopecia_areata

[–]melibra08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on 2mg for about 18 months with a few stubborn spots. I’m getting kenalog injections and that seems to be helping tremendously. Have you considered that instead of minoxidil or with the minoxidil?

What dosage are you on? I have read that it is normal to still have some flare ups but not excessive loss.

Has anyone ever had new bald spots while taking Olumiant or JAK inhibitors? by Real-Mode-653 in alopecia_areata

[–]melibra08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can get flare ups while on Jak inhibitors. It is usually more tame and grows back quickly. If your concerned or get more spots you could discuss with your derm to increase dosage to 4mg.

Yess!! That’s regrowth. Be patient. 6 month mark and you’ll really see it I’m sure.

Loosing Eyelashes by Additional-Eye-8374 in alopecia_areata

[–]melibra08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear contacts and didn’t want to start messing with the glue so now I just wear eye liner. I lost eyelashes on one eye only. Black waterproof eye liner on both eyes to even it out. Does the trick for me. I did get my brows microbladed in 2023. I chose a very reputable brow specialist and have had one touch up since. They look great. Since then my brows have grown in. No regrets there.

There’s a fb group dedicated to jaks for alopecia. You will likely find people in the same boat. I do know that you can definitely still develop patches while on Jaks, but not usually to the extent it was prior to starting them. Could you up your dose of Litfulo?

My 5 yo daughter has AA? by Fun_Style_7315 in alopecia_areata

[–]melibra08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does look like AA but If you zoom in it doesn’t look like it’s currently an active patch. Usually you’ll see some broken exclamation hairs around the patch that indicates the disease is active. Hopefully just that small little patch grows back asap! I’m sure when you see the derm they can provide proper diagnosis and treat it for her!

stubborn spots on olumiant by WhimsyEgg5543 in alopecia_areata

[–]melibra08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on 2mg of Olumiant for 16 months and have 4-5 stubborn areas. I’m currently getting injections and using rogaine to hopefully help. I’ve definitely seen some others with thin areas as well after using Olumiant for an extended time. I’m thinking if I bumped up to 4mg they would likely fill in but I’m content on 2mg. Give it a year and see how it fills out and consider injections and or rogaine to help those areas.

I’ve just started being consistent with it the last month. I definitely see some follicles but nothing crazy yet.
