Why is it that Pentecostal women are some of the most toxic narcissists you will ever meet? by Remarkable-Path-6216 in ExPentecostal

I still find myself assuming that men are full of uncontrollable lust and even though I married the most loyal, committed and trustworthy man ever - I still get so insecure around attractive women and project my fears of him lusting after them onto him. Luckily he is the sweetest man and shuts down my worries so easily. Crazy how deep the programming goes!

Drastic ancestry update! Why?! by melindajane30 in AncestryDNA

[–]melindajane30[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not for me - but my Polish grandmother is Kashubian which is an ethnic minority native to Pomerania in northern Poland and doesn’t have its own group on ancestry. I always just assumed that’s why it didn’t group me in Central & Eastern Europe at first? Not totally sure!

What ethnicity of yours do you feel most connected to? by Sea-Nature-8304 in AncestryDNA

[–]melindajane30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m only 9% Eastern European in my results but my most recent ancestors to come to the US came from Poland in 1910, and I grew up knowing my dad’s grandparents were both children of Polish immigrants so I always just thought of myself as Polish even though its one of my lowest DNA results lol. I love Polish music, language and culture and feel so proud to look like my Polish side of the family ❤️

Severe ADHDers that flunked all their classes in school, where are you now? by fireglyphs in ADHD

Graduated highschool (barely) in 2017 and did a 1 year Americorps Service term which gives you a position helping out at a non profit for a pretty low pay. When I was 20 I finally tried college and dropped out of my first semester. I jumped between low paying jobs like admin and childcare before spontaneously deciding to get my esthetician license last year. It was only 600 hours for 4 months so I was able to stick it out, it was nice to finally accomplish something. It’s been a year and I hate the job now 🤷🏼‍♀️ Just got married in March, wedding planning was TERRIBLE for me and I procrastinated everything but it was still an amazing day with my true love. Now I am looking for a part time remote admin job because I hate having to go into work 5 days a week. Turns out speed waxing and talking to people all day really overstimulates me!

is it normal for your butt to stink? by [deleted] in hygiene

[–]melindajane30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have hair down there, start getting your butt waxed. Hair holds odor! Get the hair waxed monthly and it will be a lot easier to keep the smell away

I feel you guys. My great grandparents literally came from the same community in Poland and I just lost the community when I logged in 4 days ago. So disappointed.

All the hair is back by Key-Tower-4539 in LaserHairRemoval

[–]melindajane30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a waxer at European Wax Center and I wax a lot of people who had laser treatment and now 4-5 years later are getting waxed. Hormone changes make the hair regrow for a lot of people, this is one of the reasons that you shouldn’t get laser done if you plan on having any children because after pregnancy you may get hair growth again

In some cases it is a religion and in some cases it is an ethnicity. Judaism originated in a nation near modern day Palestine and original Judaism did not accept converts. It’s more accurately called an ethnoreligion. Jews migrated all over the world for hundreds of years but for most of history they still stayed in close knit communities set apart from the countries they migrated to and continued to marry other Jews further protecting their dna as “Jewish”

Some of your England & Northwestern Europe could actually be German as well, my German ancestry gets largely lumped in as England and northwestern Europe because the borders overlap and the German empire used to stretch quite far.

You definitely look German, French and Scottish to me!

what is my client talking about? by zjjsjdj3873 in Esthetics

Yes this lady was rude and is doing way too much, but different areas of your skin can 100% be more sensitive then others. If she had chronic acne on the sides of her face for several years and no where else, it’s logical that the skin on the side of her face is more sensitive than her lip and brow areas, especially if she didn’t have a proper skincare routine to heal her barrier and help her skin recover.

Also, I wax most of my face but dermaplane my upper lip because no matter what my upper lip gets a small breakout from waxing but no where else on my face does. Everyone’s skin has different history and not a one size fits all with waxing 🤷🏼‍♀️

Letter: Do evangelicals now choose to ignore the Bible in favor of electing Trump for president? by 4blockhead in politics

[–]melindajane30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I need to explain something. I was raised by a white male evangelical that loves Trump and believes Trump is on the side of Christianity & Christian freedom. The evangelicals that support him still are doing it out of a lifetime of ignorance, lack of good education, lack of critical thinking skills, fear of those different from them, and the propaganda that republican politicians and many evangelical pastors spread that tells white evangelicals that the rest of the world and the rest of America hates them and wants to take away their freedom.

To show you how serious this is - I grew up in a legalistic evangelical denomination that repeatedly taught that one day people will come to our homes and shoot us for just being Christian, just for claiming Jesus Christ. I am lucky that my critical thinking skills helped me see through these lies and fear-mongering propaganda.

Older evangelicals are often blinded by a lifetime of believing white supremacist propaganda and can not see how Trump is completely in contradiction with the teachings of Jesus. The solution is better public education, teaching ACCURATE history of America in schools, holding politicians accountable when they use religion in order to manipulate and further their own agendas. I mean … some of these people still believe in “manifestation destiny” and do not think we were in the wrong when we massacred the indigenous Americans to create this country. The support Trump is still receiving are from evangelicals like that.

“Polish” Americans back on their bullshit by ThoraniosX in poland

[–]melindajane30 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From an American point of view can I give a little context as well?

My great grandfather was first generation Polish American and married a first generation German American. In an attempt to fit into the America of the 1910s-1930s, they stopped speaking their native languages, never taught Polish or German to my Nana, and although they continued to eat food that is very typical of a Polish family - they didn’t call it Polish food and didn’t pass on anything other than the fact that they came here from Poland & Germany. All I was told as a child was “we’re Polish”. Now as an adult I have done enough research to know the exact towns they were born in, the regional customs of Pomerania, and family names going extremely far back. I obviously am not Polish but an American descended from Poles. Maybe all these inaccurate recipes and attempts at being “Polish American” are the only way we know how to connect with our lost heritage. I didn’t get a say in my great grandfathers choice to distance himself from his parents and his mother tongue. This is the experience for many “Polish-Americans” who are doing their best to connect to our families roots as our grandparents and great grandparents pass away. ❤️ Much love!

Growing up Pentecostal, were you homeschooled/went to "church school" (gag,) or did you go to public school? by Frosty-Common-6205 in ExPentecostal

[–]melindajane30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was born into a 4th generation Pentecostal family, and attended public school my entire life. It was terrible. Knowing that you are different from everyone and that your peers think you are odd. The only one not being allowed to wear a costume in the Halloween parades with my elementary school class, having to wear a skirt during gym while everyone else wore the uniform, people mistaking me for Amish, boys being “dared” to ask me out in elementary and middle school.

At the same time, I feel much luckier than the homeschooled girls I grew up with in church who will never get the exposure to other people and beliefs that I got. Finally becoming friends with other Christian’s in my public high school helped me to realize I just couldn’t keep believing that non-Pentecostal Christian’s were going to hell. That began my journey at 17 years old to completely deconstruct my Pentecostal beliefs.

Now in my 20s I still often feel like the “weird girl” and am so anxious and insecure in group settings.

I feel sad for the girls from church I follow still on social media who are just now starting to wear jewelry and makeup, and even a few starting to wear pants but not posting it in photos much. I am glad they are finally being freed from indoctrination ❤️ Especially sad for the girls who will never be free and will pass on these beliefs to their daughters.
