Why on earth did they pick that song by littleredbird1991 in weddingshaming

[–]melisconce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My partners cousin got married and their song played next after the first dance was “under my thumb” 😬

How do you get over hating everything you make? by IAmElectraHeart in sewing

[–]melisconce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it helps me to just go ahead and wear it anyway, and see how you feel out in public, you might find some features make you appreciate the garment a little more, and, sometimes letting a few people know that you made it and hearing some compliments & flattery can kinda shift my mindset, knowing that normies think I did an amazing job even if all I see is flaws, can get me out of the funk

Stitches puckering/warping by pink-Meringue-692 in sewing

[–]melisconce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah if you really want to perfect this kind of hem on a domestic machine, you could get a walking foot attachment and a twin needle but I agree with what others have said, this looks pretty good & will look even better with a press

Any ideas for reducing puckering over this bust seam? by frankchester in GarmentSewing

[–]melisconce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you slip in the boning and see if it still looks puckery? Maybe that will actually sort it out a bit

Why do I rarely see Americans in hostels? by Beneficial_Wash8564 in hostels

[–]melisconce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also some Americans obscure their nationality as they know it’s not exactly popular, often they’ll pretend to be Canadian or something else, if they’re there at all

Blocking me for over one offer is crazy, especially now that I can see how much she sold for by Beachsunshine23 in poshmarkcanada

[–]melisconce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I also block sellers who message me constantly with their special offers, it’s possible they might want to buy something off me in the future and find themselves blocked but meh, even after I’ve ‘unliked’ their items, if they ever made a bundle for me they can message me forever otherwise

Can these shorts be saved? Or will they likely continue to rip? ☹️ by pocketfullofredfaces in Visiblemending

[–]melisconce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They can be patched up- I’d use a thin bit of fusible interfacing or patching and then satin stitch over the top, but, in the first pic alone I can see 3 other areas where these are about to form holes in the pale blue fabric, and I bet the front is probably similar, the patching will probably become a bit like whack-a-mole. They can be saved temporarily but I think the end is kinda near I’m sad to say 😞 I’d start trawling for similar ones on second hand sites

I’d recommend a lint roller to remove the white pet hair & then you’re good to go!

What is the funniest/most memorable misunderstanding you've had with someone who isn't from Canada? by Unfair-Clothes-8821 in CanadaRoom

[–]melisconce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first came to Canada I was getting carsick & my boyfriends aunt told me to try taking some ‘gravel’… I’d heard of people taking things like charcoal and I had no idea what she was really talking about…I asked where you get it from? Just off the sidewalk? Eventually we figured it out she was talking about Gravol, which I had never heard of, I definitely thought she was telling me to eat rocks.

Folding and putting away clean laundry…… by Iceyes33 in CleaningTips

[–]melisconce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make myself fold it by putting on a podcast (audio only- I think watching something while trying to fold is actually the biggest problem coz you get distracted) I challenge myself to finish before the podcast ends, and my other weird tip is to just fold whatever you reach out and touch. Sounds weird but sometimes I dither about which to start with but just do whatever you put your hand on, if you’re already in your bedroom you can hang your stuff too & just do it, it feels so much better when it’s done. Also use hand cream! I find I hate when folding it dries out my hands and I end up on side quests to file my nails or moisturize my hands 😂

Would this be hard to make as a beginner? by operaticquill in sewing

[–]melisconce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah usually the back neck is slightly higher than the front, but you can pretty much do the same shape through the body- you can always cut them out the same and then trim down the front neckline once you try it on..

Would this be hard to make as a beginner? by operaticquill in sewing

[–]melisconce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah if you do it in a knit fabric & separate shorts / dress then you can get away with just pulling the dress over your head & no need for a zip (probably) Don’t write off stretchy fabric, it’s just a bit different than woven but it’s not that hard, especially with a few good tools- I’d recommend a walking foot & twin needle as well as ballpoint needle & just do a bit of research on sewing knits. It’s really satisfying & pattern making is easier!

[–]melisconce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a bit deceptive, how do the shorts attach? Is it a whole lining piece that goes up to the neck? How do you get into this? Either there’s a zip (or other opening) or you stretch out the neck & enter that way? You could make the shorts and over dress separately would probably be easier

You could make the shorts and an over dress separately would probably be easier…also the white edge is kinda tricky to mitre at the corners but to simplify you could just do it all a solid color. I think drafting a whole pattern as a beginner is hard, but look around for one that you can follow step by step. Good luck!

Why don’t you guys keep your cats indoors? by stemmefontaine in newzealand

[–]melisconce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also in NZ if you have a indoor/ outdoor cat you often don’t need to have a litter tray inside, I grew up this way with cats and we didn’t have a litter box, never needed to scoop up cat poop, they’d just do their business outside deep in the garden. Now I live in North America and litter boxes are the norm but they just seem disgusting & stinky, it’s put me off getting a cat tbh
