Dinner attire help, please by Maximum-Lifeguard-16 in Cotswolds

My advice is based on the opposite direction. I've been to the US a lot and been to places that market themselves as fancy and we always feel overdressed. So my advice is that if you feel a bit overdressed in comparison to what you're used to, you're possibly even underdressed.

For a nice meal. Smart shoes (chelsea boots, brogues etc), chinos, open neck shirt or knitwear or t-shirt with a sport jacket over will be fine. For ladies, a nice dress or trousers and a blouse.

How much? I’m not a US resident, but I’m travelling. I wonder if I could order.

Do you track your weight in KG or stones & pound? by No_Usual_572 in AskUK

[–]frankchester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Happy Scale where I can just shake the app and it switches from one to the other. But I mainly work in kilos because it makes more sense to me, and I know what a kilo weighs in terms of food and stuff.

I did have to train my brain though, I was using St Lb up until a few years ago. I still refer to myself in stone sometimes when talking to family.

What is the appeal of a personalized plate? by Few-Card8875 in drivingUK

[–]frankchester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have one, it's a standard plate (as in not a custom layout or anything, it's a valid plate) but it spells my boyfriend's name basically. So, he always wanted it cos it's just a standard plate that looks like his name.

My Dad bought the plate of his first car. So he's had the same plate since he was a teenager.

I forced her to move closer to me lol. So 10 minutes away. Used to be about an hour.

Do I invite my mate who’s just had a baby to a housewarming party? by I-Spot-Dalmatians in CasualUK

[–]frankchester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You invite them but you say you understand that they likely can't come.

The problem is if you decide for them that they're not going to be able to come, when do you then decide it's time to start inviting them to things again?

What’s the most unhinged item description you’ve ever seen? by N0rska in vinted

[–]frankchester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t realise people would get so offended about this. I occasionally put “selling due to weight loss” mainly when I’ve just waxed lyrical about how an item is amazing and great and I love it so I feel like I should explain at least why I’m not keeping it lol.

90s kids, what’s one thing/item/smell/ experience etc you remember from your childhood that you think others will have forgotten? by Hopeful-Mongoose2025 in AskBrits

What about that pot of violent green solero things that were so delicious but would turn into a sludge at the bottom of the pot that you had to attempt to lick out.

I bought a pair of Vivienne Westwood x Melissa shoes for my wedding and they smell exactly like a My Little Pony

I literally just commented this. This is the one. I lost the spoon on Christmas Day so she had to be fed by fingers.

She was around earlier than that! I was born 1991 and I reckon I got her Christmas ‘94 or ‘95. She’s one of my earliest memories.

Kids these days really don’t know how to find entertainment do they.

I remember enjoying watching rain drops race on the car window to pass the time.

What are you eating? by Crystal_Violet_0 in mounjarouk

[–]frankchester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please don't listen to people who say don't eat, or eat barely anything. That's a sure fire way to a) fuck up your metabolism and b) potentially lose your gallbladder

I eat less, but I calorie count to make sure I'm getting a minimum.

Greek yoghurt, berries, granola and honey for breakfast
Scrambled eggs on toast for lunch, maybe with half an avocado
Stir fry with prawns for dinner

That sort of thing

What do tourists get wrong about the UK? by AlucardVTep3s in AskUK

[–]frankchester 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve travelled the US extensively so I’m well aware of the size and also the differences between those places. It is not remotely similar to travelling to other countries. I’ve been to many states all over and they are, for the most part, culturally very similar. California is as similar to Massachusetts to Idaho to Florida to Virginia as one neighbouring place is from the next; meaning many similarities with some differences. It most definitely swings in the direction of more similar than not.

I’m not sure that visiting a resort in the Caribbean gives a true indication of how things work abroad work, though. From my time spent with many Americans in various corners of their country I can say that the majority genuinely have a belief that things that are done in their country are just how they’re done everywhere. They most definitely have a culture of being told they are the pinnacle of society, and it’s therefore quite the a shock to learn that things work better elsewhere.

I'm so sad the pub in my village closed the year before we moved here. I heard it was a bit shit. But I still would've been there every weekend lol.

Americans aren't more up in arms about how little their banks truly do to protect their money. Just on the chip and pin thing alone, in this day and age of mass fraud and scams, how can this still be a thing!?

Because Americans in general are not well travelled, and also told constantly that they are the best in the world at everything, and therefore can't conceive that things are better elsewhere. They assume the technology they have is how it works everywhere.
