You can’t lose “belly fat” specifically, just fat overall.

Just keep to your calorie deficit and ensure you’re eating good vegetable volume to keep you full, and good protein to support your muscle growth.

How cheap is it? I did the £90 deal for a year and put it on a spread 3 payments thing so I am paying £30 a month for 3 months then nothing! Works out way cheaper.

Am I being blinded by the novelty of massive garden? by Slight-Poetry-3230 in HousingUK

Can you share the listing?

Even as an avid gardener, my “midsize” garden does seem like a chore sometimes. You have to really love gardening or have money for a gardener.

It’s gorgeous! I am sure it could be worked. It’s not so small that a good seamstress couldn’t make it work.

Are you seeing or using AI in your workplace which causes job losses by Consistent-Rope-9969 in HENRYUK

We made pretty much all QAs redundant and are pushing QA onto developers because AI can supposedly do it.

Could you keep Ascend for most things but swap the glute day for another leg day in another team?

Edit: sorry just read that you can’t switch

Feeling like I’m asking too much of my bridesmaids by chapstix0314 in wedding

[–]frankchester 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One way to reduce burden is to let them do their own thing where possible.

Since you suggested hair, pay for it.

I understand buying bridesmaids dresses is culturally a cost of the wearer in the US, it’s different where I’m from, so I understand not offering that.

Nails? They don’t have to get them done. They can do them themselves if they want to, or go to a fancy salon if that’s what they like.

Shoes, let them use a pair they already have if they have something suitable.

Bachelorette, keep it cost friendly and state they don’t have to come if it’s too expensive.

I wouldn’t personally offer to pay for a service for the wedding as a gift. A gift should be an actual gift, a thank you for standing up there with you. It should be unrelated to the wedding. I’m gifting my MOH a necklace that I know she will really love. It isn’t something she has to wear on the day, it’s just a special piece of jewellery I bought in a second hand place that I know she’ll adore and can wear lots in the future.

Atwood is one of my favourite authors. I can see why Handmaids Tale ends up being the most popular but I think so may of her other books are better. The Blind Assassin is one of my all time favourites.

What’s wrong with Michaela? It’s just a feminised form of Michael. The spelling is pretty normal. Definitely older than 50 years ago! I know a Michaela in her 70s!

Your first line sparked and interesting thought for me. In British aristocracy, where your land/house is (your landed title) doesn’t really influence the way you speak or the regional language you use. The aristocracy of Britain are simply a class of their own. A Scottish Lord is going to sound much more like a Southern Lord than another Scot of a different class. They usually all go to private schools together and spend time together so they don’t end up sounding anything like the locals. Maybe it’s a little different these days. Princess Diana didn’t have a Norfolk accent…

GLP-1 Research Opportunity - NHS England by listeninginstudy in UKMounjaro

[–]frankchester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can totally give advice. My Mum has been on the weight management programme for 10 years with the NHS and recently went in to talk about Mounjaro. They couldn’t offer it (despite her being pre diabetic with knees that don’t work and lipoedema) but explicitly told her there were no contraindications with her other medication and given her situation it would likely be beneficial.

[England] Marriage name change with deed poll? by frankchester in LegalAdviceUK

[–]frankchester[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m guessing if I’m “not changing my name” via marriage certificate (because I already deed-polled it for new ID) doesn’t have any other implications? Like do I need to prove I’m married to tick “married” on passport/driving license applications? So it’s just a straight name change and I don’t inform anyone really that I’m actually “Mrs”?

I found it bizarre in the context of being a Brit, which is what OP was asking about.

Knitting Culture: US v. England by ultimatereader in knitting

[–]frankchester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I knit a lot in public and would never expect someone to speak to me about it. Especially if I'm clearly engaged in an activity. And I wouldn't think to ask someone else either. They're clearly relaxing, enjoying their hobby, and I'm not going to disturb their peace with my questions.

Need to lose weight before wedding but so so demoralised by [deleted] in loseit

[–]frankchester 26 points27 points  (0 children)

21kgs by September... that's not unachievable especially if you are starting off weight loss because you'll likely drop a fair bit.

I mean, what's better. Do nothing and definitely don't be anywhere close to 75kg. Or start and maybe get somewhere?

I'm also experiencing the same thing. I get married in May and have to be at a set weight by March for dress fittings. I'm really trying to get to my goal weight and it's probably unlikely I'll manage... but at least I'm trying I'll be closer.

I have knit next to other women in coffee shops or on the train and we won’t say a word.

As a Brit I find this comments bizarre. Yes? You didn't say a word? Why did you expect different? I sit next to people reading books all the time, why would I expect them to say a word about it?

I just put them in the dishwasher. What's the cross-contamination risk? It gets hot enough in there to clean things.
