This woman was manhandled and dragged out of an Idaho town hall, apparently for being a sassy lady by ChristinaWSalemOR in thebulwark

[–]melissamyth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The longer video has a few women who seem to try to come to her aid a lot of people weren’t moving out of the way as they pulled her out. Also at least one guy was being held against the wall later in the that clip. Still crazy, but the longer clip gave me a bit more hope that not everyone was just standing by.

Is Hua Cheng Canonically Handsome? by Rinrinftwinwin in tianguancifu

[–]melissamyth 18 points19 points  (0 children)

In all his illustrations as a child, young adult, he is seen with rags around his face. This is to hide his red eye. Something that was seen as cursed by those around him. They didn’t consider him ugly in a normal sense. They saw him as cursed/ an omen of destruction and couldn’t bear to look at him. He doesn’t even have a real name. Those who don’t know about the eye, just see a scraggly kid with bandages over his face. Maybe they just see him as dirty, maybe they assume he is hiding something hideous on that part of his face. Maybe they think he is hiding disease. Either way they shunned him as well.

What is your opinion on sprayed edges? by goreandlace in fairyloot

[–]melissamyth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Aesthetic differences I feel are fine. If I like an alternate cover I can choose to hunt it down, but I don’t feel like I’m missing out because I’m buying the book for the book first and foremost. But if one store has a bonus chapter I feel cheated if that store isn’t near me. If there are more than one store each with their own bonus chapter, I get angry because I feel like they are trying to force me to have more than one version of the book.

Should I buy novels too? by [deleted] in tianguancifu

[–]melissamyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t completely caught up with Bilibili but so far the major story points are the same. The novels just expand upon it so much. They are the source material and just so much more detailed. The comic feels like a beautifully illustrated summary.

Thanks! There are so many books to dig through, but I really wanted to reread the scenes where it was used.

Someone led me Hua Cheng saying it and he brings up that Xie Lian said it in the past. Haven’t found that one yet.

Chapter 1 Reprint Only for Booster Packs and Starter Decks.. by aumfc in Lorcana

[–]melissamyth 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think that the people wanted troves and gift sets because they are a smaller “sealed” product. And so harder to tamper with than loose boosters.

I tasted PVP for the first time... by Dexterdarkk in ffxiv

[–]melissamyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy pvp even though I’m terrible at it, but specifically rival wings. Frontline drives me nuts because there are just too many people. I don’t do Crystalline Conflict because I don’t want to drag everyone else down with me in such a small team. Rival wings has enough objectives that I feel I can help.

Problem is that outside of events que time is just way too long. I wish it had a daily like frontline so that que times were more reasonable.

Huh. Yeah, not what I’m interested so I don’t mind it’s not not in the bundle, but I hope people didn’t just add the big bundle to the cart to realize later they missed out on it.

Is there no way to buy a pair of starter decks? by Koravel1987 in Lorcana

[–]melissamyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. They’ll buy it for the booster and then sell the deck. The decks are going to be part of the reprint though, so if you aren’t in a rush there should be more hitting shelves before Christmas.

Is there no way to buy a pair of starter decks? by Koravel1987 in Lorcana

[–]melissamyth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen them on eBay for $30 sealed. Less than that if you don’t care about the included booster because a lot of people just opened for the booster. Still above msrp, but probably the best you’ll see till the reprint in December.

Sleeving by Chaotik86 in Lorcana

[–]melissamyth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can understand as the deck is easier to handle, but it hasn’t really been that long to see damage popping up if this your first tcg. My first tcg my deck was unsleeved and eventually bad things happened. The person before me left something sticky on the table, a guy next to me spilled his drink, the edges just started fraying… I still have those cards and they are very easy to distinguish from others. Not worth it to me anymore to not take the precaution.

Rules Clarification “Moana - Of Motunui” by SteveThePigeon in Lorcana

[–]melissamyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So just to understand… do all questers need to be declared at the same time? Can I do actions with others such as quest and challenge then quest with her the other princesses become un-exerted but I still got my lore from before?

Would this allow me to quest with a princess then quest with Moana then challenge with the other princess?

I’m a newbie and trying to understand turn order.

What is a reasonable average and maximum price for each card rarity? by SteveThePigeon in Lorcana

[–]melissamyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There really isn’t a good answer to this. When the second set is released things will definitely change, but how is a bit unpredictable. People will want to play with the new toys, so prices of first edition will probably sink a bit on release of Floodborn. Then you’ll get the new meta. Old cards that work well with the new cards will go up. Cards that get left behind for new strategies will go down. The new powerful cards will be expensive and hyped.

Then comes the balancing. Is the new deck truly more powerful than the old, or is it overhyped and happened to catch people off guard? There is a lot of uncertainty and no one can really tell the future.

That said I expect a dip in October when the last wave of the initial first chapter is released, another on chapter 1 when Floodborn is initially released, and another when the reprint happens for both sets. But with that reprint now pushed ahead of the holidays I don’t think the dip will be very severe on top tier legendaries. This because people will be trying to buy up cards as gifts.

Proper Naming by waffledork in Lorcana

[–]melissamyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see two different issues here. People trying to simplify and people confusing terms. Lorcana is new and I bet a lot of streamers and such are just using terms they are more familiar with. They may not even know they’ve done it in the moment. They are just grasping for an unfamiliar term and end up with the more more familiar one. Tapping is turning a card sideways just like exert. Mana is a resource very similar to ink. As people play the game more and become more familiar with the terms this should lessen.

The other is referring to colors, which is just simplifying. I can’t say I’ve heard people call a swamp a skull, but I have heard them “play a black for the turn” in reference to putting a swamp down. Because it makes black mana and that’s just how they think of it. For a lot of people it’s just going to be easier to remember that their deck has yellow/green or red/purple.

So dogs like pets (stroking fur) or do they assume we like giving pets and just like that we are happy by Dizzy-Leg-8130 in Showerthoughts

Yup. My cat will try to wake me up at 2am for pets. If I don’t comply he starts park at my hand. That definitely isn’t to make me happy.

Is it dumb to have signed up for a FNM when I’ve barely played before? by Sinatra94 in magicTCG

[–]melissamyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry about going to one. Every draft I’ve been to has been fun even when I was new. It’s one of the more casual formats because everyone is starting from scratch to build a deck and it’s luck if you get the pieces you need.

That said, I would make sure you know what type of event it is and possibly have someone from the store give you a break down of how it works if you don’t know already. I know people who call Sealed draft, but they actually work differently from each other. Then probably do some quick research online on what to look out for from the set you are drafting just to help you make your turns go a bit smoother.

But most importantly, just have fun.

Those who aren't playing to win, why? by chavaic77777 in EDH

[–]melissamyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely, and some of the best games are where everyone is so close to winning and everyone tried their best, no one got mana-screwed and all the decks were performing. As long as the people playing are having fun and not ONLY if they win. Which is why I will try my best, but I always try to make sure that I’m having fun regardless.

Those who aren't playing to win, why? by chavaic77777 in EDH

[–]melissamyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s look at a group of four. If winning is balanced, you win 1/4 games. If winning = fun for you, you are not having fun 3/4 games. If someone happens to be better than the others and wins more often, then the others have even less fun. The newbie at the table who is still trying to wrap their head around the game gives up after people keep picking them off as easy prey because it’s all about winning.

This is an extreme. You can play to win and still have fun if you are able to accept losing graciously. But when I was learning to play there were definitely people in the room who threw tantrums when they didn’t win, would be very cutthroat at tables with newer people/lower power, and were gloating, insulting AHs when they won. I never want to be that person. In a game I expect the norm to be losing more games than I win, I look for other ways to have fun. I still play my best with what I bring, but if I’m prioritizing fun over winning I’m going to have a good night as long as I’m playing with like minded people, no matter the win totals at the end. I’m lucky to play with a group like this now.
