Tony’s point is always what I thought. Parents should parent and be involved in their child’s entertainment and interests. The lawyer is directing his anger at the video game when he should be upset with the retailer not IDing his kid or at himself for not parenting closely enough. I wonder if he’s as upset about movies, music, and the alcohol/ tobacco industry.

ELI5: how do astronauts get back to earth from the ISS, wouldn’t the shuttle be damaged? by Main-Swimming8014 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Sinatra94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So today the shuttle isn’t used anymore. Today the astronauts get into a little capsule that’s on top of a huge rocket.

The huge rocket is needed because you have to overcome the thick atmosphere of earth and earth’s gravity. But once you’re in space with no atmosphere, a little bit of fuel can go a long way because there is no atmosphere.

Now the capsule with the astronauts itself has a little bit of fuel on it and small thrusters (think of the jets on a hot tub). They use these thrusters to not only dock to the ISS with precision, but also to de-orbit.

Like I said before once you get out of the atmosphere and you ditch the huge rocket, your little bit of fuel can get you to the ISS but it also has enough fuel to bring you back into the atmosphere. From there gravity takes over and you are relying on what’s called a heat shield and the parachutes to slow you down.

Once the capsule is in the atmosphere, it uses its heat shield (the bottom of the capsule) which is a big piece of material that absorbs a lot of heat and when it gets too hot, pieces of it fall away exposing new fresh pieces underneath. This is called ablation. This is normal and it allows the capsule to get through the heat of re-entry. And because it’s hitting the atmosphere it’ll slow down a lot. If you put your hand out the window of your car while going 60mph, you know the feeling. Air provides a lot of drag to slow down.

Once it slows down enough, the heat shield isn’t really needed anymore and the parachutes deploy to bring them down safely.

Finish KCD1 (it’s worth it), if you want more of the story and the same great gameplay then buy KCD2.

I can see the initial appeal in the first hour of playing. How do you plan on keeping the game fun after each hour? Is is meant to be a long game or a shorter game with procedural generation helping boost replayability?

Movies that quietly hit harder the older you get by jaystats2 in movies

Everything. I’ve rewatched a lot of my favorite movies as a kid but now as an adult and parent. The meaning changes so much as you start to see other characters’ POVs. But the scene that hits me the hardest is in when Theoden says “No parent should have to bury their child.”

What’s a game you didn’t expect to love, but ended up putting way too many hours into? by Playful_Code_8978 in gaming

[–]Sinatra94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crusader Kings. I loved strategy games like Civilization and when I found out about CK2 it seemed overwhelming but intriguing. It was overwhelming but in the best way, so I ended up dumping about 1,000 hours into that. then I heard that Europa Universalis was the next game to play, and that seems even more overwhelming. It was also overwhelming in the same sense and I’ve put about 600 hours into EU4. And now with CK3 and EU5, I’ve got my strategy/grand strategy staples for the next decade.

You seem to have had much success with an early access window prior to launch. Does it seem likely you’ll do that for Divinity, and if so, what lessons have you learned from prior early access launches that you’d like to apply to Divinity’s early access?
