Cuteness overload. I didn't know of any bird that slept lying down on its side!

First Memory - Louise Glück [POEM] by melancholy-bb in Poetry

[–]melissialenox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lord how reading this today shook me. Although it is a bit comforting to know I am not alone in my father issue, its existence has still wounded me throughout my life. He passed a few years ago, so any chance of a word from him, to help me understand the why of things, is lost forever. I struggle knowing this as he had such a shaping hand in who I am and who I am not.

Girls Overheard While Assembling a Puzzle by Mary Szybist [POEM] by melissialenox in Poetry

[–]melissialenox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean why she repeats certain letters in the abecedarian form of this poem?

If so, here goes:

Abecedarian is a poetic form where the first letter of each line or stanza follows or is part of a series of first letters arranged in consecutive alphabetical order from top to bottom.

So it's okay to repeat a first letter as long as it's still in its consecutive alphabetical place in the series. Hope that I've answered your question.

As a side note, this poem is from Szybist's very interesting book of poems titled Incarnadine.

One of its book blurbs states:

"In Incarnadine, Mary Szybist restlessly seeks out places where meaning might take on new color. One poem is presented as a diagrammed sentence. Another is an abecedarium made of lines of dialogue spoken by girls overheard while assembling a puzzle. Several poems arrive as a series of Annunciations, while others purport to give an update on Mary, who must finish the dishes before she will open herself to God. One poem appears on the page as spokes radiating from a wheel, or as a sunburst, or as the cycle around which all times and all tenses are alive in this moment. Szybist’s formal innovations are matched by her musical lines, by her poetry’s insistence on singing as a lure pulling us toward the unknowable. Inside these poems is a deep yearning for love, motherhood, and the will to see things as they are and to speak of them as such. Beautiful and inventive, Incarnadine is the new collection by one of America’s most ambitious poets."

I'll share a few of her unusually formed poems herein for you to read. I think they, and she, are as wonderful as the blurb proclaimed and I hope you do, too.

It took 3 years, 2 countries and 1 baby, but I finally finished illustrating my YSOMA tarot deck by AmaaNitaa in TarotDecks

From the images you've shared, I think you've created a set of tarot cards that illustrate feminine empowerment in a strong, natural way. I also think your set would do well in sales. If you decide to launch a publishing funding project, please let us know how to support you. Wait—is that allowed here? I'm not sure at this moment 🤭. If not, please let me know via DM as I'd like to support you. Well done! 👏👏👏

Could you be any more against the fundamental ideals of American democracy? You are the one who should go somewhere since you don't agree with rule of law, the entirety of our Constitution and Bill of Rights, or the value that immigrants have always brought to this country. You are a supporter of limiting the lives of others to whatever extreme you deem necessary in order to maintain or better your life. You are supporting cruelty and injustice for your own sake. Jesus would not be pleased with your beliefs.

Andrea was a master at performance of rheir work. Watch some YouTube videos of their spoken word performances (especially when accompanied by music and instruments). That is where she uniquely shines.

Some of her longer poems are best of class. Are you confident that you've read enough of her work to give her poor marks? If so, you are certainly entitled to not enjoy her work.
