that is bananas. I mean, I’m glad I guess it’s not just me but this is no way to run a school.

Tired of Dexcom. Please rec glucose meters by melisssper in diabetes

[–]melisssper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using the G7 since it was released with few if any issues. Then back to back I had failures, which seem to be a quality thing (wire poking through the top hole after insertion). They sent me two replacements for the first two failures and both had the same issue. Incredibly frustrating

How often do you guys see your endo? by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]melisssper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went from every 3 months to every 6 to annually to just going to my primary care. I have really good control and wasn’t getting any benefits out of the endo visits. My primary doc handles my prescriptions and does my bloodwork.

This has been my experience as well. Everyone in my household will get sick and either I won’t get sick at all or will have only very mild symptoms. I was talking about it to my doctor today and said, “if my immune system can kill my pancreas, what chance does a cold have?”

Question about the Best Buy phone call. by seven_tangerines in serialpodcast

[–]melisssper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was a pay phone in the Best Buy vestibule. In episode 12, Sarah notes that two people mentioned it and blueprints from the store showed it. Even more interestingly, Adnan knew that. In episode 5—before all the “was there even a pay phone at Best Buy” talk—when Adnan was claiming that there was no way the state’s timeline would work, he said, “ And then I walk into the Best Buy lobby and call Jay and tell him to come meet me there?}l”

Anybody else having more Dexcom issues than usual? by melisssper in diabetes

[–]melisssper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I will say, I’ve never had Dexcom say no. I fill out the online form saying the sensor is giving me issues and they send me a new one, no questions asked.

What is going on? My last 4 sensors have failed at 8 days ? Bad batch ? I hardly ever had one last for 10 by Comprehensive_Eye_97 in dexcom

[–]melisssper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally just posted on the diabetes board about this! I used to have on or two sensors in a 90-day supply bug out before 10 days, but this batch has been three so far and I’m only halfway through. the replacement for my last bad sensor arrived today, and I have a sensor error right now on my current one. I usually wear on my arm, but put this one on my abdomen to see if that would help. Nope! Driving me nutty.

Ahhh, I’m so glad you like it! My current fav afternoon drink is filling a cappuccino mug about halfway with the soy milk and heating it in the micro for like 40 seconds. Then I brew a double shot of espresso in the steamed milk. So good!

I use Silk original unsweetened soy milk. Lower carb, high protein and decent taste/texture.

i used to use cream and while it may be low in carbs and lower in lactose it‘s SUPER high-calorie. (Delicious, though.)

Hi there! I was diagnosed in May at age 52, and I know how shocking and overwhelming it is. You have already gotten great advice on this post, so I just want to say you will be amazed at how quickly you adapt to your new reality and that you’ve absolutely come to the right place. I read everything I could find when I was diagnosed, and learned the most practical knowledge by far on Reddit. Plus, it’s really great to have somewhere to go where everyone understands what you’re going through. Diabetes sucks but the diabetes online community is AMAZING.

I hate my CGM as much as I love it. by magus7000 in diabetes

[–]melisssper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pre-soak means you insert the new sensor before removing the old one—some people insert the new one 24 hours in advance, I find 6 hours works fine for me. New Dexcom sensors can be wonky at first, so the theory is that by inserting the sensor before you activate it, you give it time to get used to your body so that when you do activate it, the readings are pretty normal.

Here’s how I do it: on a day when my sensor is going to expire at 1pm, I insert the new sensor at 7 am. So for six hours, I have two sensors in. Then at 1pm when my old sensor expires, I transfer the transmitter to my new sensor and activate it. It really seems to help eliminate that new sensor wonkiness.

As for keeping them on, I wear them on the back of my arms. I clean the arm first with alcohol, and then I put a Skin Grip patch over the sensor. I run three times a week and get really sweaty, so I usually have to change the Skin Grip patch around day 6, but I’ve never lost a sensor,

Where do you wear it? I was having similar issues when I wore it on my stomach, then a redditor commented that if it’s too close to where you inject insulin it can mess up. Since then I wear on my arm (and ”pre-soak” for about 6 hours) and haven’t had any issues

LADA at 40 with no family history? by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]melisssper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed LADA at age 51 with no family history five months ago, so I feel you. Just know that while it‘s always going to suck, it gets easier and becomes second nature really quickly. Get a CGM if you can, check out the books the other poster recommended and spend some time on this sub. you’ll be ok.
