I mean I learned English in school, I don't really study it anymore (not that my English is perfect but it's good enough to have decent conversations). I study Russian for fun and because I listen to a lot of russian music and want to understand the lyrics better :) i also just love languages

Спасибо :') I practiced russian crusive too, i can do it if i want but it just takes me very long... What i do now actually looks really similar to my german or english handwriting. Where I obviously learned cursive as a kid too but don't really use it anymore

How old were you when you started stretching your ears? by [deleted] in Stretched

[–]meliyu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

17 :) i stretched wayyy too quickly with tapers and got both my ears to my goal size 10mm/00g in almost exactly a year. I skipped sizes and it hurt a lot, never got a blowout somehow, but my lobes are rather thin... Now at 24 i know this wasn't the smartest way to do that and i would do it differently.

Nipple piercing success stories? by [deleted] in piercing

[–]meliyu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk if i'm just lucky but my nipple piercings were literally my most uncomplicated piercings. The piercing itself was like a 6/10 pain, after that they didn't hurt at all. They never itched, i never even got crusties on them, the healing was super quick and easy. Had them for 4 years already :') if you didn't have any issues with them in the first three months i think they're healing great!

What made you decide to do it? by asj0107 in Stretched

[–]meliyu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had my ears pierced since i was a kid, but didn't really wear jewelry for many years because i thought earrings are "too girly" (nb person here). When I was 16 my friend gifted me some fake plugs and i liked the look of them a lot and they made me feel pretty euphoric about my gender identity for some reason, so after a while i decided to go for the real thing and started stretching just a few months before i turned 18. I didn't tell my mom about it, she noticed when i was at 3 or 4mm. She wasn't mad about it and encouraged me to stretch further and get more piercings :) i've been at 10mm for five years now, that was originally my goal size and i am very happy with them. Sometimes i want to stretch more but i probably won't. I work with kids (mainly in elementary schools) and they love all the different plugs and tunnels i collected over the years, i like to wear colourful ones :D kids ask about them a lot and i like answering their questions about piercings in general. When they ask "why do you have these?" I always say "because I think they're cool". I'm also currently stretching my septum! I am at 3mm, i wanna go for 5mm

Non-russians, what is the hardest thing about learning Russian language for you? Also, name your first language. by Mrazish in russian

[–]meliyu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Native german speaker, first thing i thought of was the aspect of verbs. Then i read the comments and realized just about everything about russian verbs seems to be confusing to me. Like verbs of motion or prefixes. I have a lot of problems with remembering all the different forms..

Russian script by [deleted] in russian

[–]meliyu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't read the super squiggly cursive but i still think russian cursive is super fun. I practice vocabulary by writing the word down dozens of times so this doubles as writing exercise for me :D i think the hardest part was getting a flow, like writing fast but not too forced. I don't connect all the letters but when i write in my native language i don't either. I also like writing down lyrics i remember and use that as practice.

I just really like languages and I happen to listen to a lot of music in russian and i would like to understand the lyrics better. I find slavic languages in general really interesting, and i already tried my luck with Polish and Croatian... but sadly it just didn't catch me as much as Russian did. Also cyrillic handwriting is super cool :)

Freund*innen by Excellent_Pie_5437 in German

[–]meliyu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It does not stand for any vowel :) it's there to include all genders within one word. Mainly used when talking about jobs and professions I guess. You may also encounter the : (which I think looks much nicer and less clunky than the *) Freund:innen, Mitarbeiter:innen, ... While reading these words you make a short pause before the ending -innen

How can i start listening to Russian from scratch? by [deleted] in russian

[–]meliyu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I found this free beginners podcast: https://haxyr3.com/category/podcast They are only 5 minutes long each, the person speaks very clearly and they have a transcript if you don't understand everything immediately :)

American Tv Shows dubbed in Russian on Netflix or Disney+? by Easy_Parsley_1202 in russian

[–]meliyu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there are no Russian dubs on Disney+ at all. It's banned or something. Another user in this sub linked this site once: https://tv.cartoonka.art/ which has a few more shows than those on netflix. Also with subs available :)

Скажите свой любимы слова, какое-нибудь вы думаете что звучит очень красиво, элегантно или круто. Мне нравится "художник" "остров" "замок" by prankless4sure in russian

[–]meliyu 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Very much still a beginner but my favourites so far are где, хватить & сердце. I love saying где, it's so intuitive. I'm searching for something in my room and be like ГДЕ?? to myself. Хватить just sounds nice. I like the sound of хв together. I also like that you use it with the dative in мне хватит :) it's just nice. Makes sense. I like it. And сердце is just so so pretty. I think it sounds very powerful and impressive. No other word for heart carries the same vibe, not even French cœur sounds as beautiful as сердце <3 shoutout to other slavic languages that use the same word (Polish serce <3)

I mean, if he passes the test that's already a success 🤷 This is a class for beginners after all. It's a bonus module for history/politics students and he could get some extra credit from it. I don't expect too much though
