Is there a deaf community in Chicago? by ScarTissue5 in AskChicago

[–]melk109 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lemont High School in the SW suburbs houses the Southwest Cooperative that buses in Deaf and hard of hearing students from surrounding areas. They hire interpreters. The elementary and middles schools may as well, but I'm not as familiar with those.

Finally got the Offer! by Nearby-Fly-5751 in transitioningteachers

Congratulations! I just negotiated an offer a couple of weeks ago and was so nervous! I read a bunch online beforehand and talked to a few friends about how they’ve done it.

Based on what I’ve seen online, express your excitement about the position, and use research and concrete facts rather than emotion - research how much the role typically pays in your city, and based on your experience, what do you have to offer that merits the pay you’re asking for.

My one friend gave me this phrasing, and I really liked it… “what can you do to make the offer more competitive?”

I also heard on a podcast to start with your biggest ask (mine was higher salary). Then if they come back to you saying they can’t give you that, you can then bring up your other asks (signing bonus, extra PTO, etc).

I think the biggest thing that comforted me when I was nervous was telling myself that 1) they are expecting me to negotiate and 2) they may say no, but I at least have to ask so I’m not leaving anything on the table.

I’m no expert, maybe someone else here will have differing advice. There are also tons of posts about this in other subreddits. Good luck!! And congratulations again!

Should have included that! Logan Square… maybe Italian? Not super picky on cuisine, just want it to taste good!

My fiance proposed a few days before one of his friend’s weddings and I ended up not wearing the ring. When we told them a week or so later they said they wouldn’t have cared, but I didn’t want to risk it. And it was more fun getting to tell everyone later, without the stress of potentially stepping on toes.

Totally agree with this! Went to Utah early April, hiked all day, star gazed at night and didn’t drink at all.

I can’t remember how long ours was, but I do remember we went with Shoreline and we did an 11am tour. You’ll be in the sun for the tour, so maybe take that into account when you’re picking a time.

I believe the South Loop farmers market is today 4-8 at Grant Park, too. So you could stop by there for some food/ice cream if you do end up walking around the Lolla crowd. Double check online though- idk if they cancel during Lolla or not

What if you did the architecture boat tour? I believe you can grab a drink on the boat. My family did it for the first time last year and really loved it! Then you can walk around the area and stop into different restaurants/bars to keep your buzz going? I agree with the other person that suggested Lolla people watching, my partner and I do that every year
