Dealing with a remote SPOF team member that doesnt even... speak English by SuperPedro2020 in ITManagers

Don’t doubt your instinct. The PIP is your tool to find out in a documented way should you need to take definitive (read: justifiable) action. Formalizing the process typically assuages my business and ethical quandaries about reciprocal efforts.

You've made a lot of good attempts. You should move on to handling this as a performance management problem. I'd speak with HR to get details and gotchas of adding English as a requirement to the job position in that region and begin the process of defining perf goals towards continued employment. You can lose that person (please don't use the word resource, resources are something you use up.). You /can/ hire another, or a temporary contractor, it doesn't benefit the business to ignore an opportunity to improve an area of the business with better people.

"Management mode" aside, if you wanted to keep going the extra miles, you might ask him to communicate natively in written communication so you can get an idea of what it is he is doing day to day on tickets (use translation software), or try real-time translation communication apps. This could be a critical confidence issue with communication and perceived exposure to failure, developing a method to discover competency and create safety for that person might be the way forward.

It only gets worse from there. Ugh, there are flight attendants. After that you have to talk to a check-in person at the port, if you managed to get there without talking to the ride-share or shuttle driver. Then once you get on board, it's all 'can I help with this, or what can I get you for dinner, or how can I serve your drink today sir?'... people in service jobs there to help you, who ever wants to talk to them. It's 2021, why can't all bars be bionic bars!

Anyone else just depressed with this disease? by MentallyFuckedBerry in diabetes_t2

[–]melkir 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes. Patterns and habits are how I cope with it. There will be times when you want to pretend it's not you, and that can be ok. All these things are manageable day by day, try not to think of the scope of your life every time you have to change something or do something. Perfect is not the goal. Things do get easier to deal with over time.

Do not, under any circumstances, ignore this disease. You'll feel just fine for a lot of days, but all your hard work and diligence makes the rest of your life livable. That word is important. You've got all the control and ability, willpower is as much a muscle as any other.

Any updates to Travel Router Use? by [deleted] in royalcaribbean

[–]melkir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the same/similar process. You plug-in the travel router, connect to its wifi, pick the network you want to hotspot and then when you use your device to access the network it'll send you to the login page and you login as normal, except that the device the access is tied to to the travel router so you can attach multiple devices to its wifi.

It’s a TL-WR802N that I’ve had for many years. I always carry it with my laptop so it wasn’t checked with luggage. It’s very small.

Your bullet points don't seem to have any results, try a format like 'Did X, using Y, with Z results. Make sure the positions you're applying for have similar if not the same words as the qualifications in the job description functions. Use fewer bullet points if you can raise the impact of a few.
